THE CROPS AND MARKETS Fruit Exchanges Buried Under Orders for Oranges PRICES REMAIN UNCHANGED The Weekly Weather-Crop Bulletin for Southern California l:ggs Firmer Butter Weaker—Foreign and Domestic (train. Produce and Provision Markets LOU angel k», Feb. 20. The Fruit Exchange directors held their regular XYednesday session anil transacted the 'isual routine business. The <iuestion of '•hanging quotat ions waf. not broached as the unanimous feeling seems to be that it is still too curly to talk oi a raise, and as for a reduc tion, that is entirely out of the question. The crop is moving very nicely at the present fig ures, and it is thought b.-st to leave well enough alone. It stili lacks a week ol the first of March, when i he Southern California orange season is usual ly supposed to begin, but the exchanges report that they are literally buried under orders. There Is no remonstrance from any tOOtIOO against prices, although competitors of th • ex changes, it is alleged, are doing some cutting. ?o far all the principal dl« ributing points have boon frozen up the greater part of the winter, and the orders received have been coming principally from places that nevertook t aiiiornia fruit so early in the season. With the advent oi spring in the East, the demand for California oranges is likely to become phe nomenal. Many growers look for an increase in prices before tho robins nest again. WEATHER AND CROPS The Weekly Government Bulletin for Southern California Following is the United States Agricultural Department's weather crop bulletin of South ern California for the week ending Mondty, February IS: Warmer, clear w.-ather prevailed during tlie paßt week, except on tho first two days, which were cloud Iy, rainy and cooler than the average; the remaining days of the week were bright and sunshiny, with the temperature ranging in excess of the mean, particularly DO the 17th and ISth, when respectively, at the Los Angeles station, and were an excess of three decrees was noted over the weekly avernge. Farm work was somewhat interfered with by the rains otherwise the week pre sented tine groivi ng weather and vegetation of every description advanced rapidly. Oranges ripened fast and the gathering ami shipping of t he crop is progressing as fast as the demand of tbe trade calls for. SAN LUIS OBfSW COUNTY. The rains of the past week have somewhat checked farm work, as the ground is too wet for plowing. Dry weather is needed to aid in the putting in of the last of the grain crop. Highest temperature, S3 degrees; low est, 42; rainfall, 1.44 inches. FKNTPP. \ COUNTY. Baidsdale—The weather has boon warm and dry; very favorable for work and growing crops.
