FOR SALE-BUSINESS PROPERTY, very choice, and a bargain. M. L. SAMSON & CO., 6 128 Wist Fourth Street, City Lots and Lands FOR SALE —HANDSOME RESIDENCE site, any size from a single lot to a) whole block; situation as fine for a large resi dence us can be found In Los Angeles; only half as far out as Weatlake park, und twice as desirable iv a dozen ways. The property Is bounded on the north and south by Third and Arnold StS„ and on the east and west by Blxel st. and Lucas aye. Blxel st. runs north from Seventh to Third, rising gradually all the way till this beautiful elevated plateau Is reached. It Is a broad, well improved street and a favorite with people who drive. Lucas avenue runs parallel with Blxel, and Is the first street west of It. The big Shatto residence Is on Lucas. It Is a full mile nearer the city than Wcstlake park, and the cars bring ono from the corner of Lu cas aye. and Second st. to Spring st. In' just S.minutes. The lots are practically level and just high enough above the streets to admit of the most artistic fin ishing up. The outlook from them Is as fine as It is possible to Imagine, and a good residence would show up from them to very great advantage. It could'beiseen for miles and would be a landmark. From it the view In any direction would be In describably pleasing. The eye would take In the entire mountain range from San Bernardino and Ban Antonio clear mound to the ocean, the ocean Itself aud all the Charming panorama of city and valley that lies between. One can get here any Size lot, from 50x125 to 250 feet square, or larger If desired. And ho can got It at Its present —not a speculative — value. .This property, and all the property In the neighborhood, will undoubtedly he held higher the moment real estate begins to move, and there are good reasons why the advance hero will be greater than elsewhere. In the first place. It is about the only really beautiful hill district that Is not ruined or threatened with ruin by the oil. The line of derricks Is far to the north of this property, and never can cotno any closer, because south of that line there Is no oil.. That fact has been abundantly demonstrated by repouted and costly experiments. Secondly, the Third street tunnel, when completed, will make of Third st. as Important an east and west thoroughfare as Seventh now Is. A car lino through the tunnel and past this property Is assured, and will probably be In operation within a very few months. If property on Seventh st., between Blxel et. and Lucas aye., Is now worth $50 a front foot, this will be worth more, be cause of Its better location and greater nearness to the business center of the city. The situation Is finer. It Is "on the hills," but not hilly. It has all the advan tages of elevation and outlook, and none of the disadvantages. One does not have • to climb any steep hills to get to It, nor find a succession of hills and hollows when he arrives. For healthfulness, pure air, Inspiring view and absence of frost, It Is not excelled. For sale by S. R. HENDERSON, 1257 W. L. J. PERRY, Superintendent NO LONGER AT HA WARDEN Mrs. Gladstone Leaves Her Historlg Home Through. Troubles Thousands of Americans who admire the life and work of William Ewart Gladstone will hear with regret that his estimable and beloved widow is no longer mistress of Haw arden castle, and that this historic residence will not in future be her home. There has been a considerable amount of friction and unpleasantness in the Gladstone family since the old statesman's death, mainly in connection with the disposition of his es tates aud in the control of the property, bud feeling being engendered in the minds of the sons and daughters of Mr. Gladstone by tha altered position in which the widow of his eldest son—namely, Mrs. William Henry Gladstone —has been placed by his death. It is probable that henceforth and for the re mainder of her days the elder Mrs. Glads tone will make her homo in London with her son Herbert and be oared for and nursed hy her unmarried daughter Helen. 9
