The Clipping; llurenu "Have you ever given consideration to the work of a press clipping bureau?" says the Springfield (Mass.) Union In a recent' editorial. "Nothing seems to es cape the quick eyes of those who read the thousands of exchanges. If 'Spring field" or the 'Union' appears in any pub lication, now matter how obscure, the article Is clipped out and sent to this newspaper. The last installment from Burrelle's agency contains clippings from the Wichita (Kas.) Eagle. Public Opinion, the Los Angeles (Cal.) Times, the Chica go Tribune, the Ware Itlver News, the Milwaukee Sentinel, the Easthampton News, the Davenport (la.) Democrat, the Mtlford Journal, the Plttsflpld Eagle, the Newport (Vt.) Standard, the Worcester Gazette, the Boston Globe, the Brooklyn Eagle, the Chicago Inter-Ocean, the At lanta Constitution, the Philadelphia Press, the Turners Falls Reporter and a score of others). In each clipping the word Bprlngfleld Is underscored with blue pencil. "When one considers the vast number of exchanges read and that they are read for hundreds of clients, who are inter ested in as many different things, it is really remarkable that so many refer ences to Springfield are discovered. When the day's work is done we should think there would be plenty of tired eyes In the Burrella establishment. The clipping bureau is relatively a modern Institution, but It has become almost indispensable to the manufacturer, the politician, the clergyman, ilia editor and the busy man of affairs generally." . CHOPS WHISKERS TO MAKE ARRESTS DETECTIVE BOYD SACRIFICES MUSTACHE SCHEME WORKS ADMIRABLY Clever Officer Adopts Herolo Meat* urea to Land Chinamen Behind the Bars of the City . • Jail In order to raid a Chinese lottery at 211 1-2 North San Pedro street and cap ture the proprietor, It was necessary for Detective Hoyil to sacrifice his beautiful flowing mustache. • Three days ngo the detective ap peared at the police station minus the "pride of his life." To all anxious In quiries of his brother officers, the "smooth" detective made reply that he had not made the great sacrifice for nothing, and would be able In a few days, ' with his new disguise, to show them a thing or two. Last night when Detectives Boyd and Ingram marched Into the station with Ah Chlng and Chlng Lew and 1000 lot tery tickets In their possession, the se cret was out and the motive of the great sacrifice became known. Ah Chlng and Chlng L«w had long been under the watchful «yes of the two detectives, but the Chinamen also had their watchful eyes on the detec tives. Attempt after attempt had been made by the police officers to land the alleged lottery keepers behind prison bars, but to no avail. At each attempt they were "spotted" by watchful almond eyes, and an hour before they reached the game the alleged proprie tors had disappeared. At last the detective decided to make the sacrifice and last night, in his new disguise, he crept silently to the door of the San Pedro Btreet house and in answer to his gentle and "unpoliconic" rap the door was cautiously opened by Chipg Lew. Too late, the Chinaman recognized hla arch enemy and gave the alarm of police. Detective Ingram followed close in the wake of his partner and Chlng Lew and Ah Chlng were ar rested.
