4 URGES PEOPLE TO GIVE THANKS PRESIDENT ISSUES ANNUAL PROCLAMATION Thursday, November 30, Set Aside ai Day for Expression of Gratitude for Plentiful Times and Mercies Received Py Associated Press. WASHINGTON, Nov. 2.-Th« presi dent today issued his proclamation naming Thursday, Nov. 30 next, aa a day for thanksgiving. The proclamation follows: "By the president of the United States of America. A proclamation: "When nwirly three centuries ago the first settlers came to the country which has now become this great re public, they faced not only hardship and privation, but terrible risk to their lives. In those grim years the custom grew of setting apart one day In each year for a special service of thanks giving to the Almighty for preserving the people through the changing: sea eons. The custom has now become national and hallowed by Immemorial usage. Should Observe Da/ of Pralae "We live in easier and more plenti ful times than our forefathers, the men Who with rugged strength followed the rugged days; and yet the dangers to national life are quite as great now us at any previous time in our history. It is eminently fitting that once a year our people should set apart a day for praise and thanksgiving to the Giver of good, and, at the same time, that they express thelrl thankfulness for the abundant mercies received; should manfully acknowledge their shortcom ings and pledge themselves solemnly and in good faith to strive to overcome them. During the past year we have baen blessed with bountlfu crops. Our business prosperity has been great. "No other people has ever stood on as high a level of material well-being as ours now stands. We are not threatened by foes from without. The foes from whom we should pray to be delivered are our passions, appetites and follies; and against these there is always a need that we should war. Seta November 30 "Therefore, now, I set apart Thurs- Hay, the 30th day of this November, as a day of thanksgiving for the past and of prayer for the future, and on that day I ask that throughout the peo ple gather In their homes and places of worship and, in rendering thanks unto the Most High for the manifold bless ings of the past year, consecrate them selves to a life of cleanliness, honor and wisdom, so that this nation may do its allotted work on the earth in a manner worthy of those who founded it and of i those who preserved it. "In witness whereof, I have here unto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. "Done at the city of Washington, this second day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hun dred and five, and of the independence of the United States the one hundred and thirtieth. "THEODORE ROOSEVELT. "By the President. "Elihu Root, secretary of state." CITY IS NOT BUYING PARKS Committee From Sixth Ward Meets With Little Encouragement From Mayor Members of the park commission •will always be found In a receptive mood when citizens Insist on donating land for parks but when the commis sion is asked to spend money for the purpose of acquiring land for that pur pose the members will probably acquire a. certain hardness of hearing. This, in effect, was the statement made by Mayor McAleer to a commit tee of Sixth ward residents who ap peared before the commission yester day morning with a proposal that the city purchase ten acres of land In the Sixth ward and improve It as a park. The land is known as the 80-wen & Dalton tract and lies east of Central End north of Vernon avenues. The committee expressed a belief thnt the ten acres could be purchased for ?25,000. "Now if the residents of the Sixth ■ward would only get together and buy that land themselves the commission would be glad to consider the proposi tion," said the mayor in his moat in sinuating tones. "But to ask ua to buy It when the city is in as hard financial straits as now is the case is a little. too much." The committee was composed of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bowman, W. Davles and Mlsa Dora Ford. INCORPORATIONS Jurupa Water, Light and Power Co. —Directors: F. W. Pickard, J. B. Sam viel, Herbert L. Cornish of Los An geles. The relation of the nerve* and pen- eratiro organs in women is so close that tilne-tenths of the nervous pros- tration, nprvous debility, the blues, sleeplessness and nervous irritability arise from some derangement of the organism which makes her a woman. Fits of depression or restlessness and irritability. Spirits easily affected, so that one minute she laughs, the next minute weeps. Pain in the ovaries and between the shoulders. Loss of voice; nervous dyspepsia. A tendency to cry at the least provocation. All this points to nervous prostration. Nothing will relieve this distressing condition and prevent months of pros- tration and Buffering no surely as Lydia E. Plnkham's Vegetable Compound. Mrs. M. E. Shotwcll, of 103 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, N. V., writes: "I cannot expivw the wonderful relief I have experienced by taking Lydia E. Pink- ham's vegetable Compound. I Buffered for a long time with nervous prostration, back- ache, headaohe, loss of appetite. I could not sleep and would walk ihe floor almost every night. " I had three doctors and got no better, and life was a burden. I was advised to try r-ydla R. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, oiid it has worked wonders for me. " I am a well woman, my nervousness is all gona and my friends say I look ten years younger." Will not the -volumes of letters from women made strong by Lydia E. Pink- ham's Vegetable Compound convince all women of its virtues ? Surely you cannot wish to remain sick and weak and discouraged, exhausted each day, when you can be as easily cured as atuer women.
