cil of the City of Los Angeles, declar-
ing their Intention to construct a sewer In
said city In Bernardo street and Adobe
street.
The Mayor and Council of the City of

Sec. ■2. That the snld contemplated
work of Improvement, In the opinion of
said City Council, is of more than local
nr ordinary public benefit, and said City
Council hereby declares that the district

by said work or improvement, and to be
assessed to pay the costs and expenses

cause a notice similar In substance to be
published for six days in the Los Angeles
Herald, a dally newspaper published and
. circulated In said city, and hereby desig-
nated by the City Council for such pub-
lication.
..Soc. 4., The said City Clerk shall cer-
tify to the passage of this Ordinanco
and cause tho same to be published by
two insertions thereof in thn Los Angeles
Herald. »nd shall cause the Raid Ordi-
nance' to be posted conspicuously for two
days on nr near tho chamber door of tho
said City Council, and thereupon and
' thereafter It shall take effect and be In
force.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Or-

the City. of Los Angeles at its meeting
of January 22, IDOfi. by the following vote:

second street under private contract.
The Mayor and Council of the City ot
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That permission is hereby
given the property owners on
FORTY-SECOND STREET,
from the west line of Normandie avenue
to the east curb line of Halldale avenue,
to Improve said street under private con-
tract in the following manner, to wit:
To Grade and gravel Forty-second
street in the City of Los Angeles, from
tho west line of Normandie avenue to
tho east curb line of Halldale avenue, in-
cluding all intersections of streets (ex-
cept such portions ns have already been
graded and graveled and accepted); said
grading nnd graveling to bo done in
accordance with the plans and pro-
file on llle in the office of the
City Engineer of said city, and
specifications on file in the office of the
City Clerk of said city for grad-
ing and graveling streets In the City
of Los Angoles with the natural gravel
of the street, Class A, said specifications
being No. 30 (New Series).
To build and construct a cement curb
along each line of the roadway of said
3 Forty-second street, from the west curb
line of Normandie avenue to the east
curb line of Halldale avenue (except-
ing along such portions of the
line of said roadway upon which
a cement or granite curb has al-
ready been constructed on the proper
line and grade), in accordance with speci-
fications on file in the oflice of the City
Clerk of said City of Los Angeles for
constructing cement curbs, said epeclil-
cations being No. 2'i (Now Series).
To build nnd construct a cement sjde-
walk five (5) feet in width along each
side of Forty-second street, from the west
curb line of Normandie avenue to the east
curb line of Halldale avenue (excepting
such portions of said street between said
points along which a cement or asphalt
sidewalk five (5) feet In width has
already been constructed on tho proper
line and grade); said sidewalk to be con-
structed in accordance with specifications
on file in the office of tho City Clerk of
said city, said Bpeclflcations being No. L' 3
(New Series).
To build and construct a cobble paved
gutter along each side of said Forty-sec-
ond street from tho west line of Norman-
die avenue to a point IWI feet wewt of tho

The Mayor and council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section I. That thn Council of the City

Ist. That said
PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE.
In said city from the south line of Kear-
ney street to th« south line of Uridge
street, Including all Intersections of streets
(excepting such portions of 1 said street

to be kept In order or repair by any
person or rompany having railroad tracks
thereon, and nlso excepting such portions

eled and accepted), be graded and grav-

of said Pennsylvania avenue from the
south line of Kearney street to the north
line of Kearney street, and from a point

street to the south curb line of Bridge
street; and a cobblo paved gutter across
Pennsylvania avenue, the center line of
the gutter to be the north and south curb
line respectively of Kearney street (ex-
cepting along such portions of the -line
of said roadway along which a cement or
granite gutter has already been construct-
ed to tho official lino and grade, and also
excepting such portions of said street
and intersections as are required by law
to be kept In order or repair by any per-
son or company having railroad tracks
thereon).

Sec. 2. Tho Council of said city
finds upon estimate of the City Engineer
that the total cost of said improvement
will be greater than fifty cents per front
foot along each line ot said street. In-
cluding the cost of intersections, and It is
determined, in pursuance of an Act
of the Legislature of the State of Califor-
nia, approved February 27th, 1893.- as
amended by an Act of the Legislature
amending said last named Act, which

1899, that bonds shall be Issued to repre-
sent the cost of said Improvement. Said
bonds shall be serial, extending over a
period of ten years, an even proportion of
the principal sum of which shall be pay-
able annually, on the second day of Janu-
ary of each year by coupon, after their
date until the whole are paid, and to bear
Interest at the rate of seven (7) per cent
per annum, payable seml-annually on the
second days of January and July of each
and every year.
Sec. 3. The City Clerk is hereby di-
rected to publish a notlco of said work.
Inviting sealed proposals or bids for
doing said work, and referring to the
specifications posted or on file, for two
days In the Los Angelea Herald, a dally
nowspaper published and circulated In
said city, hereby designated for that pur-
pose. Said notice shall require a certi-
fied check or a bond, either, as prescribed
by law, and for an amount not less than
10 per cent of the aggregate of tlio pro-
posal. He is also directed to post said
notice with specifications conspicuously
for five days on or near the Council
chamber door.
Sec. 4. The City Clerk shall certify to
the passage of this Ordinance, and shall
cause the same to be published for two
days In the Los Angeles Herald, and
thereupon and thereafter it shall - take
effect and be in force.

dinance was adopted by the Council of
tha City of Los Angeles at Its meeting
