to Marmlon way, in the City of Los
Angeles," and which specifications were
approved by said Council at its meeting
of June 11, 1906, which said plan and
profile, said plans and said specifications
are hereby referred to for more particular
description of said work.
That the said contemplated work
of improvement, ln the opinion of said
City Council, Is of more than local or
ordinary public benefit, and Bald City
Council hereby declares that the district
In the said City of Los Angeles benefited
by said work or Improvement, and to be
assessed to pay the costs and expenses
thereof is described as follows:

An Ordinance declaring the Intention
cf the Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles to establish the grade of
Jefferrcn street from Central avenue to
the west line of Lander street.
The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That It Is the Intention of
the Council of the City of Los Angelb*
to establlsn the grade of
JEFFERSON STREET,
from Central avenue to the wrst llne of
Lander street. In accordance with the fol-
lowing elevations:
At the Intersection with Crntral avenu*
the grade shall be IM.IO at the northwest
corner nnd 1M.50 at the southwest cor-
ner.
At tho Intersection of the southerly line
of Jefferson street with the southerly line
of Austin street the grade shall be 195.00,
as now established on Austin street.
At the intersection ot the southerly line
of Jefferson street with the northerly line
of Austin street the grade shall be 190.00,
as now established on Austin street, and
195.50 at a point on the north side op-
posite thereto.
At the intersection of the northerly line
of Jefferson street with the southerly line
ot Thirty-fourth street the grade shall
be 197.00.
At the intersection of the northerly line
of Jefferson street with the northerly line
of Thirty-fourth street the grade shall be
197.05.
At the Intersection with Wadsworth
Btreet the grade shall be 198.50 at the
southeast and southwest corners.
At the Intersection with Kureka Btreet
the grade shall be 105.27 at thn southeast
corner and 195.12 at the nouthwest cor-
ner, aa now establlahed on Kureka street.
At the Intersection with Lander Btreet
the grade shall be 194.70 at the southeast
corner, and as now established, 194 50 at
the Bouthwest corner and 195.00 at a point
on the north side opposite thereto.
And at all points between Bald desig-
nated points the grade shall be estab-
lished so aa to conform to a straight line
drawn between said designated polnta.
Elevations refer to the top of the euro
are In feet and are above a plane which la
255 feet below City datum plane.

The Counclt of said city finds
upon estimate of the City Engineer
that the total cost of said Improvement
will be greater than fifty cents per front
foot along each line of said street, In-
cluding the cost of intersections, and it Is
determined. In pursuance of an Act
of the Legislature of the Siate of
California, approved February 27. 1893, an
amended by an Act of the Legislature
amending said last named Act. which
amending Act became a law March 2. 1899.
that bonds shall be Issued to represent
the cost of said Improvement. Said bonds
shall be Aerial, extending over a period
of ten years, an even proportion of tho
principal sum of which shall be payable
annually, on the second day of January
of each year by coupon, after their data
until tl'e whole are paid, and to bear
interest at the rate of seven (7) per cent,
per annum payable semi-annually on th«
second days of January and July of each
and every year.
Bidders must file with each proposal
or bid a check payable to the ordei of
Ihe Mayor of this city, certified by a
lesponsible bank, for an amount which
shall not he less than tr-n per cent of

The Mayor nnd Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follow*:
Section 1. That the public Interest
and convenience require, And that It li
the Intention of the City Council of tha
City of Lou Ang«les to order the fol-
lowing work to be done, to wit:
Ist. That said
! SAN PEDRO STREET
In said city from the south line of Fifth
street to the north line of Jefferson Btreet,
Including all intersections of streets (cx-
i ceptlng such portions of said atreet and
Intersection* na are required by law to l>«
kept In order or repair by any peraon or
company having railroad tracks thereon,
and also excepting such portions an .have
Already benn graded and paved with as-
phalt. Seventh street a\id Ninth Btreot)
be graded nnd paved with hydraulic
cement and broken stone concrete base,
with broken atone and nsphaltln cement
binder course, with asphalt wearing sur-
face and with vitrified block gutters.

line of the roadway of said San Pedro
street from a point five (S) feet aouth of
thn south lino of Fifth street to a point
five in) feet north of the north line of
Seventh street and from a point five (6)
feet south of the south llne of Seventh
street to a point five (5) feet
north of tho north line of Ninth
street, and from a point five, (5) feet aouth
of the south line of Ninth atreet to a
Point five (5) feet north of tho north Una
of Twelfth street, and from a point five
(<>> feet south of the south lino of Twelfth
street to the north line of Jefferson street,
and along the respective east and west
side of said San Pedro street across each
street and alley Intersecting said Sari.
Pedro street between tho limits aforesaid,
excepting Sixth street, Seventh street,
Ninth street. Twelfth street and also ex-
cepting along such portions of said San
Pedro street between the aforesaid limits
nlong which cement or granite block gut-
ters have already been constructed to the
official lino and grade and also except-
ing such portions of said street and in-;
tcrsectlons as are required by law to be
kept In order or repair by any person or
company having railroad tracks thereon.
Said gutters shall be three (3) feet In
width except across street and alley In-
tersections, where said gutters shall ba
six (6) feet ln width.
All of said work shall be construcled
to the official grade of said San Pedro
street, Iff accordance with the plans, pro-
files and cross sections for the same on
file In the office of the City Engineer of
said city.
Said vitrified block gutters shall be, con-
structed to the official grade of said Streot j !
In accordance with Specifications No. 34
(New Series) for the construction of vltrl.
fled block gutters In tho City of Los An-
geles, and said paving with asphalt shall
be constructed to the official grade of
said Btreet in accordance with specifica-
tions No. 3« (New Series) for street pnv-
lng with hydraulic cement and broken
Btone concrete base and asphalt wearing
surface, Class B. in the City of Los An-
geles, said specifications being on file In
the office of the City Clerk of the City
of Los Angeles.
2d. That a cement curb be constructed
along each line of the roadway of said
San Pedro street, from the south cur'o
line of Fifth street to the north line of
Jefferson street (excepting along such
portions of the line of said roadway upon
which a cement or granite curb has al-
ready been constructed to tho official line
and grade), ln accordance with specifica-
tions for constructing cement curbs, on
file In the office of the City Clerk, said
specifications being No. 22 (New Series ). '
3d. That two (2) culverts be constructed
across portions of Twelfth street, ex-
cepting along and across such portions
of said street and intersections as are ri>-
quired by law to be kept In order or re-
pair by any person or company having
railroad tracks thereon. Said culverts
shall be located as follows:
One (1) of snld culverts shall be con-
structed along tho west side of said San
Pedro street across Twelfth street from
the curb return at the northwest cor-
ner to the curb return at the southwest
corner of said Twelfth street, and San -
Pedro street.
One (1) of said culverts shall be con- L
structed along the east side of said San /
Pedro street ncrnss said Twelfth street a
from the curb return at the northeast
corner to the curb return at the southeast '
corner of said Twelfth street and San

Said culverts are to be constructed of-
concrete with steel plate tops, in accord-
ance with Section 10 of Specifications No. :
36 (New Series ), and also in accordance
with the plans therefor on file in the of-
fice of the. City Engineer of the City of
Los Angeles. ,
Sec. 2. The Council of said city ,
finds upon estimate of the City : En-
gineer that the total cost of said im-
provement will be greater than fifty
cents per front foot along each line ot
»ald street. Including the cost of Inter-
sections, and It is determined. lin
pursuance of an Act of the Legisla-
ture of the State of California, ap-
proved February 27th, 1893. as amend*
ed by an Act of the Leglslnture amend-
ing said last named Act, which amend-
Ing Act became a law March 2d, 1599.
that bonds shall be issued to represent
the cost of said Improvement. Said
bonds shall be serial, extending over a
period of ten years, an even proportion
of the principal sum of which, shall be
payable annually, on the second day of
January of each year, by coupon, after
their date until the whole are paid, and
to bear Interest At the rate of .9evcn
(7) pel cent per annum, payable semi"
annually on tho second days of Janu-
ary and July of each and every year. ,'
Sec. 3. The Board of Public Works

quired by law, and shall cause said no-
tice to be published for six days in the
Los Anseles Herald. . •
Sec. 4, The City Clerk shall ' certify
to the passage of this Ordinance, and
•hall cause the same to be published
for two days ln the Los Angeles Her- .
aid and shall post the same conspicu-
ously for two days on or near the'
chamber door of the Council, and there-
upon and thereafter It shall take effect „
and be In force. : i
I hereby certify that the foregoing
Ordinance was adopted by the Council
of the City of Los Angeles, at I'.s meet-
Ing of June 11, 1906, by the following vote:
