2 CHRIST, THE DIVINE, SHARED HUMAN SENSE OF MATERIALITY The Christian world has for ages been looking upon Jesus the Christ as the Savior of the world, from the Standpoint of propitiation that through his life and death lie has reconciled God to man. He has been thought to be the sacrifice which would release men, after death, from the bondage of Bin. Christian Science declares him to lie the Savior from the standpoint of exemplification. His early life, cruci fixion and resurrection gave proof of man's unity with God; his words, fol lowed by his works, showed how to bring to light Gods spiritual perfect man. But, say some, the Master was divine. Yes- but ho shared our human sense of materiality, and overcame It through the divine sense, and he said, •■I am the way." In his great Sermon j on the Mount he has made plain, in those immortal words known as the beatitudes, every footstep of the way of salvation from sin to holiness, from death to Life. Here hi describes the mental stagey of development, leading up to the beatific consciousness of eternal harmony, or heaven. The first step he refers to a*> a cense of spiritual need: "Blessed are the poor in spirit.- There is perhaps no class more ready to accept the truth than those who' have tasted nil the good things of earth, and with Solomon found them "vanity nnd^ vexation <>f , spirit." The temptation offered by the serpent In the garden of Eden was a "knowledge of good and evil. The. good offered was the alluring phase of the lie. find all who have tasted, find that it goes hand In hand with the evil, is void of peace and Oiled with ■pain i!v nature it is temporal, and it always ends In woe. Says Emerson. "Punishment is a fruit that unsus pected ripens within the flower of the pleasure which concealed it." Of those who realize the need of ft permanent good which the world can not give nor take away, who are ready to look away from the mat. and temporal and trt nock life In God eter nal Spirit. Jesus said: "Theirs is the kingdom of heaven." When this sense of spiritual poverty comes there is an awakening from the carnal dream to the error of the ways of the world or sense: repentance and contrition for pas! sins and present shortcomings possess the thought, and the Master refers to this blest stage of spiritual] development as "they that mourn,' for when they have learned In truth the unreal nature of sin, and the power of divine Love to destroy the love and fear of sin, "they shall be comforted. Mortal man then begins to see bis own nothingness; pride is checked, ego tism and self-will baffled, and lie reaches tho third stage, of which it is said, "Blessed are the meek." This is : , state of consciousness which is ready to look to ■ higher source for all bless ings, and to depend upon God for all temporal as well as eternal needs; "For •they shall inherit the earth." Now the humbled and uplifted consciousness Is ready to seek and to mid the truth about God and man. and there follows the Inspiring assurance-, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled." Mrs. Eddy says, "Seeking is not suffi cient. It is striving that enables us to enter 1 (Science and Health, p. 10). | Righteousness has been defined ns right : thinking, right doing, nnd right know- Ing. Every right thought, word or deed ! is prompted by Love, and Christian Sci ence has taught us how to know the truth about man as God's perfect idea, and thus we learn to "Judge righteous judgment." This leads to the n> \t beatitude: "Blessed are the merciful! for they shall obtain mercy," This Is in har mony with another of the Master's AN OXYGEN LUNG BATH Are You a Victim of Consumption? Are you failing of success in life and missing your dream of happiness because of this disease? Are you shattered in mind and body, nerveless and despairing through the wasting effects of tuberculosis? Are you weary of drug-taking, weary of money-spending, weary of the delusive promises of physicians who do not heal and of treatments* and specifics that are alike fruitless? You have, no doubt, had your share of experience with different medicines. You have probably dosed on the "constitution" theory and have paid dearly for your pastime. How do you suppose that pouring drugs in your stom achal! cure the disease in your lungs? The only way consumption can be cured permanently is by the Belgian Oxygen Lung Bath. The method of feeding the lungs with an oily, balmy inhalation which kills the tubercle-bacilli at once and heals and strengthens the diseased parts resulting in a complete and permanent cure. The treatment is pleasant and agreeable and refreshes the patient from the start. No germs can live where this balmy inhalation penetrates, and it reaches every portion of the lungs and by a natural process develops them and increases the chest expansion. We ask you to read below what the Belgian Oxygen Cure has done during the last six years: If You Have the Germs of Consumption, Have Them Killed or They Will Kill You The Belgian Oxygen Inhaling Treatment saturates your entire system with Germicidal Chemicals so that germs cannot possibly live. This is the only treatment known to the scientific world that does actually produce these results. Whatever sens* we hold re garding our brother, that sense Is real to us, and Will bo manifest in us, To hold In thought the true sense of man, brings purification from criticism, condemnation, hatred, malice, envy, resentment, "Blessed arc the pure in heart: tor they shall Bee God." They shall see only good. This spiritual con sciousness naturally makes peace wherever Its influence is felt, and sin, sorrow, and suffering flee away. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of ! God." When consciousness Imp risen to the point of asserting the nothingness of the carnal mind and proving It, then that mortal mind which is enmity Against God, ami cannot be subject iunto the law of God, attempts resist ance to the uttermost and wo have the Master's comforting words: "Blessed are they which aw persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." All of the resistance of the carnal mind Is futile, if we abide in the true sense of harmony, fear In* nothing, By this we may know that we are ; following in the way of those who have proved the way before us, and have conquered the world, and flesh and I the devil. Our great Master has given us the i example, lias trod the same pathway to its end, and as in- Journeyed he wrestled "not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers; against the rulers of the dark ness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." and pre vailed—prevailed to the point of over coming the malice and envy that tem porarily placed him in the grave. Ris ing in the spirit of i,ove. he hastened to convince still further his unbeliev ing disciples, to whom tic had said, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread "ii serpents and scorpions, and over nil the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any meant hurt you." "Blessed are ye when men shall re vile you, nnil persecute you, and shall say nil manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake, r.rjoiee and he exceeding glad: for great is your re ward in heaven; for so persecuted they th" prophets which were before you." Thus our glorious exemplar finally ros« beyond all material sense, and he has left this word: "He that belleveth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."—Christian Science Monitor.
