March 30.—The course of tho prlco movement Of stocks shifted again today. The amounts offered for sale were not of great volume, but the demand was Insufficient to absorb them except at ma terial concessions. Th* dealings had an ap pearance of professionalism and the market was obviously narrow and apathetic. Conclusions of \milo application were drawn from the sudden weakness shown by the Atchlson convertible bonds, which were dealt in "when Issued" la the outside mar hot Compared with a price of $1.10 ma yes terday after the Issue wns announced, ""' price ran off to 11.03%. It was advanced In explanation that a provision by which the right of conversion Is deferred until Hl* llrst became known today. Thi episode Is cited nevertheless to show a congested con dition of new md Issues In the market. The opinion Is heard thai an era of short term note Issues is again approaching, such as heraldeil the oversupply of capital issues three years ago. Special interest for that reason attaches to the opinion of Chairman j j Hill of Urn Great Northern that the railroads will require new capital at the rate of 11.800,000,000 a year for six years to come to provide absolute necessities. In face of this necessity the demands for bonds both from home and foreign domestic in vestment sources continues to fall off. There was much discussion of tlio dancer of discouragement to enterprise in a pro longed delay in the decision of the Import ant case* before the supreme court, the pos sibility of which Is suggested In connection with the death of Justice Brewer.. There was a rally In prices when It be came known that the supreme court would be in «ea»lon on Monday with the possi bility Inferred of decisions being handed doTh"e bond market was apathetic and ir regular due to slight recoveries of some re "nt sharp declines. Total sales, par value. $3,166,000. Government bonds were un changed on call. NEW YORK STOCKS Special service to The Herald by .1 C.
