News of the Mines and Oil Fields NEW LAND OPEN TO PROSPECTORS REGION NEAR BARSTOW NEEDS NEVADA SCOUTS igneous Belt Lies Between Lime and Granite One Mile Wide and Is Prospected for Eight Miles An ■••ar matin yrnterday tar The Herald on a »iiiuiilt< from the linrbrr claim* in the new mining region thirty-live mlle» north of liurttow Kliowril » total value In gold and kllvrr of BJHN » lon, (HI rent* of whirl* nuN ullvrr. Tin' now mining region thirty-five miles north of Baratow, where several rich striken have boon recently iniulr, is. according to W. E. Allen, ■ Los Angeles and Nevada mining man, one of the biggest countries exploited In yrars. Mr. Allen returned yesterday from the scene of tho recent strikes, loaded with samples and Information, and •■•aid tho thing most innl e«i there right now are some wldeawali i Nevada prospectors, the kind that v. '.(. pi In and make the '.amp go. Ho *h- there la lots of country yet to bo located and from present indications the mineral ized zone extends over a large area. The original strike in this country ■was said to have been made at Make up Johnnie, but this Is evidently an error us there Is no Wako-up Johnnie in that vicinity, and as a matter of fact there is nothing at present but a few tents, scattered over a number of miles along tho zone. The country, according to Mr. Allen, has been prospected tor about eight miles. The Mitchell strike was the first from which any quantity of ore was taken and a shipment of two tons from it in said to have run $400. Th« Hart strike was tin- first one made mil an average of $15 a ton was de rived from a width of twenty feet. The Harbor strike seems to be th<* richest, taken as a whole, and Mr. Allen says thai from about fifty homings on a width Of twenty-live feet lie found , that none of them ran under $50 in gold to the ton. Rich' Surface Showing With these facts to substantiate the claim It would seem that thin region li.'s a large and remarkably rich sur face showing. What will develop at depth is as yet para theory, but It Is believed that at leant a very profitable low grade proposition Is sure. Officials from the Yellow Aster and men interested at Tecopa are now in the country locating claims. The Te copa people have taken mi option on tin 1 Hart property and tried to get an option on the Barber, but failed. The Tecopa people are said to bo backed by Los Angeles and Pasadena capital and are desirous of (retting everything of value there corraled. Mi. Allen, who lives at 3212 Manitou avenue, returned to the city to outfit and will leave for the new country Thursday prepared to develop his claims. . "It is the biggest surface showing ever discovered in this country," said Mr. Allen yesterday. "The Igneous belt lies between lime and granite at least a mile wide and Is traceable for eight miles. The recent strikes are about throe miles apart and in forma tion that looks like porphyry and schist with stringers of quartz running In the porphyry. "Water can be developed for milling purposes from the center of- the camp, in a dry lake, where a well was once, but which has long since caved in. At the present time drinking water is hauled from Williams well, sixteen miles away, and costs $5 a barrel to get it Into camp. "There is a road from Barstow into the country Which, with the. exception of the last two miles, is na good as any country road in California. The last two miles of tho road contain patches .if sand, making travel somewhat dif ficult. "There Is lots of ground yet to bo loruted, nit nevertheless a Kreat deal lias already been staked. The country !s a large one and the prospects are of the vet;' best, mnklng It a good field [or prospectors that understand thetr business. It takes only two and one half hours to reach camp from Bar stow by automobile." Mr. Allen Is the man who made the famous zinr strike at Good Springs, Nevada, last fall, and cleaned up a snug sum on a quick sale of the property. <in the Barber property ore is now being sacked for shipment. Twenty to thirty sacks will comprise the first load, which will be teamed out probably this week. , GIRL SELLS CLAIMS IN NEW GOLD CAMP SAN' BKUNAHDINO, March 30.— .Miss Kittle Preaton, 19 yean old, has made her fortune in the new K<>ld camp When the liver is Out of Tune . the whole system is off the key —stomach upset, bowels slug gish, head heavy, skin sallow and the eyes dull.
