Many supposed the meteor to be an offshoot of Halley's comet, and Its aim was apparently straight for the downtown district of L,os Angeles. However, after having its little joke, the meteor apparently exploded and disappeared in a dazzling shower of sparks in the vicinity of Venice. The brilliant visitor was one of tho most spectacular of its kind ever seen In Southern California. Its blazing tail extended from almost the center of tha sky to the horizon. Its progress was so slow that the great stream of light was plainly visible for about two min utes. y, it was reported that the meteor struck in the vicinity of Topan go canyon, but these reports could not be verified.
