Quebec, March 14.—We are sorry to
learn that the damage done by the gale of
last Saturday fortnight was more extensive
than we had imagined. An intelligent per
son from tlie county of Cornwallis, lias re
ported at the mercury office that not less
than two hundred barns and some houses
in that neighbourhood, had suffered in vari
ous degrees, and that the effects are visible
from tiie parish of St. Rock, to point Levy,
the soutli shore, many houses and barns
being wholly or partially unroofed.

DELAWARE ADVERTISER,
Thursday, April 6, 1826.
CARD.
We would respectfully inform our friends
and the public generally, that we execute
Joh.Printing of every kind, at this Office, in
the neatest manner, and on reasonable terms.
Those who want Hand-bills, Advertise
ments, Cards or Blanks printed, will be ac
commodated to their satisfaction. Orders
from the country will be promptly attended
to.
Several favours have been received, but
owing to an unusual press of business, we
have necessarily been compelled to defer
them another week.
The Liverpool Mercury, of 3d March,
reports the death of the Emperor Nicholas,
by assassination. This report is copied from
the Edinburgh Weekly Chronicle, of the
preceding Wednesday, which paper copies
it from the Edinburgh Observer, of the day
previous, and the Mercury says, is inserted
without comment. It is in the shape of an
extract of a letter, dated "Kirkwall, Ork
ney, Feb. 2,0, 182G," which states that cer
tain accounts of a counter revolution in Rus
sia have reached Elsineur.
"Nicholas, with ninety of the principal
nobility, his adherents, was assassinated, er
shot, and Constantine again proclaimed Em
peror. It will be long before this can reach
Edinburgh officially, and as it seems to be
quite authentic, must, in the mean time, be
interesting."
Little credit, we think, can be given to the
I above, .for such reports generally result
I from new accessions; and the late dissatis
fy faction, manifested on the part of those more
I favourable to Constantine than Nicholas, has
i furnished good ground for a reported conspi
racy
Messrs. Editors .—The following extract
is taken from a letter just received from one
of Mr. Jefferson's neighbours and most in
I timate friends. An idea very similar to the
f one contained in the extract, had bf en sug
f gested to us by a very venerated and distin
t guished friend here :
"The tickets in Mr. Jefferson's Lottery
will come out for sale on the 13th April,
,which is his birth-day. Now my idea is, that
E' the citizens ofthe United States might re
| lieve him in the most delicate way, by pur
I chasing up the tickets and burning them.
1. To make it more flattering, they might
f burn them on the 4th July, and remit Him
the money on the same day. The friends of
I' Mr. Jefferson here, are delighted with what
I- the people of Baltimore are doing in his be
ll half, and hang their heads at the backward
I; ness of his own native Virginia."
Six per cent Stock of 1813.—The Nation

the Treasury Department to the holders of
this stock, of the loan of $7,500,000, that
so much of the principal as remains unre
deemed, with the interest due thereon, will
be paid on the first day of July next. A sur
render of the certificates will be required
at the time of redemption; and the interest
thereon will cease and determine on tlie 30th
of June, 1826.

Female Bible Society.
The Ladies of this Bôrough are respect
f u iiy invited to attend the annual meeting of
the Female Bible Society, at the Episcopal
Lecture Room, on Wednesday the 12th inst.
a t y o'clock, where an appropriate address
will be delivered by the Rev. Henry White,
As this society has long been on the de
cline, it is most earnestly requested that all
Females interested in the cause of religion,
would aid in its restoration to religious exer
tions. In almost every town or village where
Female Bible-Societies have been located,
their operations have been prompt and ener
getic ; and why can they not be so here ?
The managers indulge the hope, that the
bare knowledge ofthe fact that aid is real
\ y needed , will be sufficient to draw both
friends and funds to this sacred cause; and
they make this disclosure in the hope of
their expectations being realized,
