BOB AND ALF TAYLOR Greeted Last Night by a Standing-Room-Only House—The Entertainment Sim ply Sp|fndicJ. One of the largest and most enthusi astic audiences ever assembled In O’Bri en's opera house was there last night, |o hear two of Tennessee's distinguished eons in "Yankee Doodle and Dixie.” Standing room only was to be had when the curtain rose, and Mayor Van Hoose arose to intfeduce the gentlemen* ■whose irepjJtation as' orators has loo# been ttsiablishitd- Seated on the stages .were Mayor .VanHoose, Gen. Rufus X. Rhodes, Hon. John W. Tomlinson, Gen. R. M. Neharn, Dr. J. H. Phillips, Rev. John Barbour, ReV. Dr. L. 9. Handley, Col. \V. A. Handley and others. Mayor VanHoose Introduced the Messrs Taylor in a very happy little speech, bespeaking ror them a warm reception. At the conclusion of his introduction the audience tendered the distinguished gen tlemen an ovation. Kx-Congressman Alf Taylor came first with a beautiful oration on the United States, which he described as the grarrar: est and the greatest nation of the wot 10, and the home of the freest, the brav«*t and the best people. He begin with trrt landing of Columbus, and traced the for mation of the’ government through its different stages down to tho present time. Though once divided," said he, “the United States now stands unitfep against the world.” , JL Mr. Taylor was suffering with cold aqfi hoarseness, and as soon as he had con cluded his "oration” went to his room.at the Morris hotel. J, He was followed by his brother. Haig Bob Taylor, ex-governor of Tennessee and eio-congressman. His talk was of "Dixie,” the garden spot of the world, as he termed it. “Governor Bob.” as he is called. Is probably the best humorouB lecturer before the people today. He Is an Inimitable story-teller and keeps his audience convulsed with laughter from the time he utters the tirst word until the end of his talk. Not only Is he a mag nificent story-teller, but he is an orator of no mean ability. At frequent intervals during the talk a quartette of male voices Illustrated the point made by the speaker. The quar tette was composed of Messrs Taylor, Willis, Charles Sawrie and Robert W. Nichol. All in nil the entertainment furnished by the Messrs. Taylor has not been equaled by anything heretofore seen in Birmingham. When Baby was sick, we gave her Outorfo. When she was a Child, she cried for Castoria. When she became Miss, she clung to Costoria. When she had Children, she gave them CasteriA. * • COL M. V. RICHARDS DEAD. He Expired at his Home on South Highlands Yesterday After a Short Illness.
