Chicago, Oot. 25.—Either a bulge or a break in wheat wcrnkl be a source of grati fication to the commission men if the dull ness and inactivity would coma to an end. Today was insufferably slow in that market. A fruitless effort to boom prices at the open ing was followed by an easier 'feeling in fractional decltnes, but prices were as stub born in opposing the bearish endeavors when a certain point was reached as they had been to the boll tactics earlier. Two of the large ground floor houses essayed to boom the market during the earlier hours of the session, but It was noticeable that the same firms were prominent as sellers before the session closed. December wheat opned from 61 to 61Hc, sold between 61*4® 6l%c. closing at 60$4®60%c, Vic under yester day. Cash wheat was steady. Corn—'The vim was out of corn trading to day. although the feeling was firm, the con tinued light receipts keeping shorts a little bit anxious. The selling wns principally on May, operators who' were doing so at the same time buying May oats. A theory has existed for some tlfne paat that this spread Is favorable, owing to the probability of the two grains coming nearer together when the new crop of corn begins to move. Very narrow limits prevailed In the market to day. the range on May being but V4e with the close at the outside. May corn opened <vt 29%c, sold at 29%e, closing at 2t>34c, a shade over yesterday. Cash corn was firm. Oats—Early there was a moderately good business doing in oats, but trade subsided later, and at the close there was absolutely nothing of interest In the market.
