The United Statea Thanksgiving Day
will be observed by services in Central
Union Church and St. Andrew's Cath
edral on Thursday next, the 29th inst.,
which the general public is invited to
attend.
A native named Palau, who lived at
Cape Horn in this city, died on board
the steamer Kaala coming from Waia
nae. He was sick when he started and
the body was delivered to his widow and
family at the Station.
THE BASEBALL VISIT.
Programme of the Day's Events.
Following is a list of to-day's events,
following the issue of this paper, pro
vided the Spalding baseball tourists shall
have arrived : - 4
1. After breakfasting at the Hotel the
party will at 10 o'clock be presented to
His Majesty the King,
2. At noon a light lunch will be taken
by the players at the Hotel.
3. The whole party will assemble at
the Makiki recreation grounds at 12 :30,
when the teams will have practice of fif
teen minutes each.
4. At sharp 1 o'clock the game will be
called between the Chicago and All
America teams, and at the close of the
match a game of probably five innings
will be played by the winning team in
the above and a picked local team.
5. A grand luau tendered the tourists
and resident invited guests, by His
Majesty-, Hons. John A. Cummins, Saml.
Parker, John Ena, and Mr. George C.
Beckley, will be held upon Her Majesty's
premises, corner of Queen and Punch
bowl streets, at such hour in the evening
as will prove most convenient.
6. Wind and weather being favorable,
there will be a balloon ascension from
the Makiki grounds by a skilled aeron
aut, who will ascend one thousand feet
and frora that awful height leap to the
earth with the aid of a parachute.
7. Merchants are requested to close at
noon, and also to display flags.
The grand stand belonging to the ball
grounds is reserved for ladie3. Mr. Thos.
Lucas has provided a stand for which an
admission fee will bo charged. Admis
sion to the grounds will be free. People
in carriages are requested to head their
horses toward the fence. Score cards
will be for sale on the baseball grounds,
the same kiid of cards as are used on
the Chicago grounds, at 10 centB each.
The Alameda.
Up to the hour of going to press, there
was no sign of the Alameda, although
she could probably be seen twenty miles
off at 7 o'clock this morning, bad she
been within that distance. A large
crowd, including the band boys, have
been waiting at the Beaver Saloon, since
davlight, for the signal to start off in the
tug Eleu. The weather during the
night was showery and wet, but wiL
probably be clear during the day.

Liquor Traffic In Africa.
At the late missionary conference in
London, Rev. W.Allen gave startling
statistics as to the African liquor traffic
which he characterized as a mission
agency of Satan. At Sierra Leone 180,
000 gallons of intoxicants were imported
last year and at Lagos 1,213,000 gallons
in the same time. The last three resolu
tions adopted at this convention favored
a petition to Parliament to stop the
opium trade with China, that measures
be taken to prevent the flooding of the
Congo country with strong drink and to
stop licensed vice in India.
What Boys Can Do.
The boys in the employ of the Woman's
Temperance Publication Association,
Chicago, have placed a tank of ice water
for free drinking purposes in Arcade
Court.

of Gloucester,Mass., who being unable to
dissuade the board of aldermen from
granting liquor licenses, resigned bis

Mr. A. A. Montano Loses His Left Arm.
While Mr. A. A. Montano, the well
known dairyman of Manoa Valley, was
hunting pigs on the ranch of a Portu
guese neighbor yesterday, his cun was

taken to the Queen's Hospital, where
amputation of the arm between the
elbow and wrist was found necessary.
