Si'o.vr lrico of refined remained unchanged in the local market until April 1st when both refineries reduced . cube crushed and powdered 3C, dry granulated .'c. and advanced Ex. C. and Golden C gc Pr wunOl making the following prices for pnncipid grades: Cube G 3-8c., 1). granulated (te. Ex. C. 5c. and Golden O. 44'c. Since theu there has been no change and all prices are guaranteed for thirty days. ( Concerning the combination of the two refining interests on this coast, the reg ular mail advices since the above date have given full particulars. WtS can add very little more on the subject at this writing. The incorporation of the new company has not yet been published, but it is ex isted that it will be early neit month. The American refinery remains closed and the California is running full capa city night and day. All the receipts of island sugars are being delivered there. It is probable that the American will not be started up again as the capacity ' of the California is sufficient lor all re quirements. Trices of refined in this market will no . doubt be kept up until the bulk of the high priced sugars delivered I he refin eries the past two months has been worked off. As soon as this is accom plished, quotations will be reduced to more of a parity with New York prices. Ciba Basis The following- are the quotations since our last circular : March 25th 5.83, 2Sth 5.90, 30th 5.90, April 1st 3.53K, 2d 3.53, 3d 3.50, 9th 3.60, 14tU , 3.53,1, , 17th 3.50 and 20th 3.50. Eastern and ' Foreign . Marekts Our mail advices from New York of the . 8th i net. state that the demand for re- . fined has been enormous , and conse quently the buying element has been . manifesting more interest in rawx and -holders continue to entertain t-trong views. Mail advices of the 11th ' state ' 1 that the spot market for raws is gradu ally hardening and sales for future de livery have been made at higher prices, viz.. May delivery centrifugals At 3.G9, -June 3.70 and July 3.78, for 90 test. The refined movement continues very . heavv. hut nrion Lften Rtationnrv. Tha sales of free sugar since the opening of the ', month to above date amounted to two millions barrels, and the most of the!' same was for immediate delivery. . . Higher prices for refined are expected , for June, and the course of the raw sugar ' ' market seems to bear out this idea. Our latest mail advices of the 15th report future deliveries weaker. ' No ex- Sanation is offered, however, for th . ... r oweringof views. Spot stock is gener- ally held firm. The demand for refined continues heavy and it has been neces- ; sary to withdraw several grades from the market on account of refiners being over sold. Buyers entertain the opinion that ; nothing can be lost by anticipating their ' orders to June and having them filled at current rates. Beet Root Sugab After .several weeks without transactions, a sudden movement has taken place, and from 10,000 to 12,000 tons purchased for the New York market at 14s. 4)d. to 14s. , 6d.
