The Election Returns From Hawaii.
From the Hilo Record.
Election day passed off very quietly
here In town, and all the other dis
tricts as far us heard from. The Hilo
Road Board seemed to cause almost
all the interest apparent in and around
the Court House. We congratulate
Hilo on having a new Road Board in
which the people have confidence, and
we helieve that one of the first things
the Board ought to do is to commence
and prosecute faithfully the work on
the road between Onomea and Haka
lau. Until that is done and a good
horse trail made the whole distance,
the other roads must only be attended
to enough to keep them fit for travel.
Below will be given the number of
votes cast in all the districts of this
island, as far as heard from:

Five of the Japanese, out of eleven
who were arrested for assault and bat
tery on a luua at Wainaku, were fined
as follows: Three received the full
penalty of the law $ UN); one (75; and
one $50. The rest were acquitted.

the Conservative list are doubtful,

men who beat the regular Liberal
candidates, and who so far as we can
learn are not in sympathy with the
