LOCAL BREVITIES. Ben Gallagher was released late vesterday afternoon. A five room cottage, number 8 Emma street, is to let. C. F. Herrick has fresh Leghorn eggs for setting tor sale. M. S. Levy will continue his sale the balance of the weeK. Squad 8, Citizens Guard, wil meet this evening at 7 :30. The delinquent tax list has been published in the Chinese limes. Delinquent appetites find bracers in the Empire saloon s "nan a half." Frank Cooper has returned from Kona and is much improved in health. Fresh Enterprise Hock beer is the attraction at Jim Dodd's saloon. The celebrated mixologists are dispersing sparkling Bock beer at the Anchor saloon. Fresh Parker House rolls will be put on sale at the Woman s Ex change at 10 o'clock today. The Arawa will not arrive until Saturdav, having been detained two days on account of delay of the mails. The Eagle House and all that is therein, has changed hands. Snecial rates are given regular boarders. Mrs. Thurston is not expected to arrive by the Arawa, it being un derstood she i3 visiting relatives in Michigan. The Philadelphia battalion will land this morning for weekly shore drill. They will use the campus of Kamehameha school today. A banquet followed the special meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter last night. Proprietor Krouse of the Arlington was the caterer. The Kilohana Art League will meet at the residence of Mrs. W. C. Parke next Monday evening. Every member is requested to be present. Yee Chong and Ah Chun have purchased Chong In's interest in the See Chong restaurant. First clasa meals will be served at popu lar prices. Passed Assistant Surgeon F. A. Hesseler, who will relieve Dr. Crandall on the Philadelphia, is expected to arrive by the Arawa on Saturday. The Hall will take a number of the Portuguese immigrants this morning. More will leave by the Kauai steamers, and the remainder will he taken by the Kinau on Fri day. Beer Manufacturer Here. Among the passengers by the Australia was Mr. X. Remen Bperger. He is one of the pro prietors of the Enterprise Brewing Association a San Francisco, and comes to the islands on a business and pleasure trip combined. Mr. Remeneperger was hr ten years in the employ of the Wieland Com pany at an annual stipend of $10,000. After severing his con nection with that concern he began the manufacture of beer on his own account. Enterprise beer is sold through out the Coast and extensively drank in these islands. Jame3 Dodd, of the Pantheon, is the general agent for the beer on the islands. Canse of Mrs. Rodgers Death In the case of the late Mrs. Doctor Rodgers, a post mortem ex amination was made on Monday by Doctors Myers, Herbert, Day and Cooper, which disclosed the fact that her death was caused by a perforation of the intestine. Death under the circumstances be ing inevitable, it is a satisfaction to her husband and friends to know that the acute suffering of her last hours was soon terminated. Joseph Hyman, the well known merchant, returned yesterday for a brief visit. William Metcalf and family are late arrivals. Mr. Metcalf is from Pittsburg, Penn. Councillor John Emmeluth re turned bv the Australia from a business trip abroad. Mrs. M. Gray, George McLean, wife and daughter, are home after a lengthy stay in San Francisco. D. G. Camarinos, the San Fran cisco fruit merchant, is in town. He will remain here for several months. Colonel George de La Vergne, and family, will return to the Coast bv the Australia, after a visit to relatives on Kauai. Mrs. C. R. Spalding returned yesterday with her son, who has been attending college in California for the past two years. Allen Towle, a wealthy lumber man of California, waa a passenger on the Australia. His wife and daughter accompanied him. Dr. E. S. Goodhue, of Pasadena, Cal., arrived yesterday with his family. The doctor will locate on Kauai as a Government physician. Mr. and Mrs. Morbio and family arrived yesterday. Mr. Morbio is a well known San Francisco lawyer. His wife is a daughter of Major Adolph Sutro. Herman M. Levy is a late arrival. He is a lover of baseball, and is said to be a good player. It is un derstood that he is willing to play with one of the local nines. V. H. Charlock has returned to the Islands. 4Billie" is to have charge of the Arlington billiard parlors. That already popular re sort will be made more so when the musical voice of the returned actor, agent, minstrel and all- round good fellow is heard within its walls. Colonel George Macfarlane re turned from the Coast on yester day's Australia. The colonel re ports having been sought by news paper men for interviews. He says the deported citizens of Honolulu have for the most part maintained a discreet silence regarding affairs in the Islands. Judge W. A. Kinney, who went to the Coast recently in the interest of the Government, returned by the Australia. Mr. Kinney visited Salt Lake City and other cities be fore returning home.
