KILAUKA AT OMAHA.
Volcano Cyclorama Will . IJ
Handled by Home People.
It is about settled that a local com
pany wi'.l show the Kilauea Cyclorama
at the Omaha Trans-Mississippi Ex
IKiiition, to opn in June next and
continue five months. The great can
vass is now in storage at Boston. In
transit it fills two cars. The Cyclorama
is the property cf Honolulu people.
Mr. T. W. Hobron had intendf l to so
over and manage the show, but has
changed his plans on acconiu of busi
ness affairs .here. Martin Smith is at
the head of the local combination that
has secured the lease of the canvass
and the selected ground at Omaha. Mr.
Smith will leave very scon to lock
aftrr the Cyclorama. On the Exposi
tion grounds there has been secured
a most favorable site. The location
is between the machinery and fine
arts halls, and facing the Midway. It
will be necessary to put up a largre
building-. Native singers' will be tak
en along. In showing Kilauea there is
used several hundred incandescent
electric lights and steam from pipes.
The show has been praised by all who
have seen it. It did a big- business
both at Chicago and at the Midwinter.
Progress is being made in the plans
for a Hawaiian village at Omaha. The
Government has shown some interest
in the matter and a number of busi
ness men have consented to give sub
stantial support. It may be that the
proiect will soon be discussed by the
Chamber of Commerce. It is plannec
to make quite an industrial showing
Robt. V.'. Shingle is cue of the men
selected to assist in maintaining the
Hawaiian village at Omaha.

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B
Atherton last evening-, quite a gather
ing of people interested ia the study of
literature was addressed for an hour
bv Prof. Cora McDonald. The subject
was the pla3' "Othello." Miss McDon
ald .handled her subject in a manner
that surprised and pleased all and that
was very instructive. She gave a close
analysis of several of the characters,
spoke of the Moors and other people of
the plays and gave a clear idea of the
customs of those days and of the topo
graphy of the theater of action. An
other meeting of the class will be held
on Monday evening next, when the
parts in the first three acts of the play
will be read. Miss McDonald will again
speak of the characters, the historical
phases and the country.
At the Judd Building.
The force of workmen at present en
gaged on the site of the Judd Block
at Port and Merchant, is not large.
About a dozen men are handling the
stone that is being carted to the place
amd running the pump that it removin
the tide water. The workmen nave a
big audience nearly all hours of the
day. For the wayfarers there seems to
be a fascination about the operation of
machinery in the open or the effots of
either skilled or unskilled workmen
At times there are as many as 100 men
and boys loking into the basement or
cellar of the new building. People who
have kept check on the scene aver that
many a busy man has stopped at the
place for half an hour, simply, as a
native will sometimes say, to "look
see."
Code Revision Ready.
There will be a special meeting of
the Honolulu bar in the office of the
Attorney General in the Executive
Building at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
At this time there will be reported the
result of the comparison writh the stat
utes of S. M. Ballou's revision of the
criminal code. For nearly three weeks
Marshal Brown W. A. Henshall and A.
Rosa have been hard at work making
the comparison. It is the pupose of the
attorneys of the bar here and of the
law department of the Government, to
have the codification adopted or enact
ed by the Legislature. There are not a

Police Court.
In the Police Court yesterday morn
ing John Gilman was sentenced to a
term of imprisonment of 30 days at
hard labor on the charge of vagrancy.
Since the races at Cyclomere park
when Gilman showed up as one of the
prominent amateur riders, that young
man has been doing questionable
things. He was caught on the prem
ises of another at night without law
ful excuse.
Peter Xunes and Kuelike, charged
with gross cheat had their cases set
for the 12th inst.
