Miowera flatly contradict ru- S mors to the effect that the ship, while j on the vayoge down from Vancouvei had fire in the coal bunker?. It is ai serted that the story is pure invention. ! One statement made is cited to prove ! fault in the yarn. This is that the ship was "hove to" for fire fighting pur poses. Those who know about vessels say this would be only the very last resort and that in such cases every body aboard would be informed of the matter. One of the gentlemen speaking of the publication said he was surpris ed that Jt was not represented that the Miowera had returned to port to get some 10x10 American flags for the Ho nolulu naval trade.
