Queen Victoria's Birthday.
On motion of Dr. McKibbin seconded
by Mr. A. S. Cleghorn. If. B. M.'s Com
missioner W. J. Kenny was elected
chairman and on motion of I). Logan
seconded by Robert Cation, W. Horace
Wright was elected secretary.
After a brief discussion, on motion
of I). Logan seconded by Dr. McKib
bin it was decided that the meeting
appoint a committee to make arrange
ments for a ball to be given on the
evening of May 24th with the British
Commissioner and Consul-General as
honorary chairman. Such committee
to have power to add to its number.
On motion of Robert Catton second-.!
ed by A. S. Cleghorn it was decided
that the price of tickets for the ball
should be $2.."0 to admit a gentleman
and ladies.
The committee having been named,
the meeting adjourned and the com
mittee organized and appointed a com
mittee consisting of the chairman,

tion of his eighth birthday, on the
spacious and attractive lawn of the re
sidence of his mother, Mrs. Charles
L. Carter, at Waikiki, yesterday after
noon. The children were entertained
with games and dancing and kindred
other amusements. One attraction was
the pony cart of Master Loyall Sewall
in which all the children rode.

Long Branch Beach.
' Col. James Sherwood, the proprietor
of Long Branch resort in Waikiki, says
that in IS years he has not noticed
such a disappearance of sand from the
sea's edge as during the past month,
At Long Branch where it was neces
sary some weeks ago to sweep sand
from the door before closing up at
night, the water is now under the door.
A bath house and a new building that
were several yards from the shore line
now have water under them even at
low tide. Colonel Sherwood is not
alarmed, however, believing that beach
will "make" again. The Long Branch
owner contemplates considerably im
proving his place in the event of abili
ty to secure a license for the sale of
light liquors. Otherwise he will make
no changes.
A Polite Driver.
There were two rather incensed la
dies on Fort street early yesterday aft
ernoon. They had gotten into one of
the tram cars and, upon arrival on
Fort street, decided to get off. Just at
about this time, a girl with a wheel
hailed the car. It seems that her ma
chine was out of order and she told
the driver so. That individual fastened
his brake and proceeded to "fix" the
wheel on the back platform, the opera
tion requiring nearly five minutes. In
the meantime, the ladies left the car
and got their dresses covered with mud
by the wheel of the bicycle which stood
out from the platform.
