To th S E E R Address at Ladies' Night: of the Research Club. I Some Ideas for Young Men So ciety's Last,Session for the Sea sonA Noted Visitor M usic. The 'allies' night of the Young Men's Research Club, was rather more than a social success. The event promises to be established as one of the insti tutions of Honolulu. About sixty peo ple were the guests of Rev. D. P. and Mrs. Birnie, who entertained hand somely as usual. The club will not meet again till next September in regular session. There will be one more gathering down town as a fare well to Rev. Mr. Birnie, father of the organization. The gathering last evening was composed of young people who are in terested in current thought. The speaker was V. N. Armstrong. He said he would not offer advice, but would present a few books of factn from a library that had been a long time accumulating. Mr. Armstrong was very interesting. His picture of life in controlling realms in New York City was intensely clear. The points to young men were: That per haps the first essential to success is the capability of making one's self useful to others. That wealth has its burdens. That "influence" really counts for very little. That the great est practical virtue is the ability to wait. Mr. Armstrong gave many per sonal reminiscences and observations. Living in New York City, he was given the opportunity to see great men and events. His arguments and cita tions well sustained his conclusions. Mr." Armstrong suggested but one book. This was Bacon's Essays. Prof. Eaton, of Beloit College, en route to America, was obliging enough to say a few words. He congratu lated those present upon having had the benefit of such an address as had been made by Mr. Armstrong. The college President said it was an ex cellent thing t6 have such an organi zation as the club for the discussion of problems so plain to all thinking men. He believed these problems were being worked ont. The speaker of the evening was in troduced by Rev. Mr. Birnie. The music consisted of a mandolin sole by Mr. Frazier with Prof. Ingalls at the piano and a song by Mr. "VVichman, with Mrs. Wichman as accompanyist. Band Concerts. It has now been definitely decided that there will be no third team to compete in the remainder of games during the present season. The play ers of the old Star team now with the Regiments, positiveljr refuse to leave the ranks of their last love. They have no wish to play tinder another banner and are perfectly satisfied with their present situation. The game between the Regiments and Honolulus will be called at 3:30 this afternoon. Toyo Jackson will pitch for the Honolulus. The other players will be the srime. Wind Storm Damage. Considerable damage was done at the quarantine station during the heavy blow on Wednesday night. The roof of one of the sheds went to pieces, the bridge to the outhouses and some of the outhouses themselves collapsed, the telephone and electric light wires were blown down and all kinds of pili kias were registered. Some hard work at repairing was done by Jack Mc Veigh and force, but still there is a great deal yet to be accomplished. All tho?e San Francisco "Josh" pa pers that have been trying to be funny at the expense of Frank Unger are hereby notified that he has entirely "reformed"-' and is now one of the solid business men of Honolulu. .rut. Duun "Yu.u-l to it shadow and Was Thought to l:e Dyin.; or CoumnitIou. The Detroit (U. S. A.) Journal pub lishes the following interesting ac count of one of the heroes of the Amer ican war: For twenty-five years Ser geant Dunn has been a resident of Detroit, Mich. Like thousands of his comrades, he came out of the war with an impaired constitution. His great disability was a weak stomach. "For years I have been troubled with my stomach," said he, "and received treatment for many diseases which the doctor said were due to indigestion. It got so bad that I had to quit my place and get out-door work which it was thought would benefit me. I first had one trouble and then another which my doctor stated was caused by indigestion. Some weeks I would nearly starve as I could not digest the most common foods and I lost forty pounds in weight. One day I read a testimonial in the paper about Dr. Wil liams' Pink Pills and I began taking them. Three boxes were enough to stop those terrible, distressing pains in my stomach, and I began to have an appetite again. I took Dr. Williams Pink Pills as regularly as I ate my meals, and I slowly but surely got well again. I gained ten pounds in six months, which was a lot for a man that had been so run down as I was. My friends said I had consumption. This is the reason I can truthfully recom mend Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People. They are a cheap but effective remedy, and I call them the working people's doctor." Morris P. Dunn. State of Michigan, County of Wayne, ss. Before me personally appeared Morris P. Dunn, who acknowledged the foregoing statement to be true in ev erv respect. Robert E. Hull, Jr., Notary Public, Wayne County, Michigan. All the elements necessary to give new life and richness to the blood and restore shattered nerves are con tained, in a condensed form, in Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People.
