The working force of the Bishop &
Company bank, had a big dinner at
Sans Souci last evening.
There will be no concert by the Gov
ernment band today. An attractive
program has been arranged for the
concert at Makee Island tomorrow aft
ernoon. Between 400 and 500 seats have been
sold for the Hawaiian concert to be
given on the 27th at the opera house,
.in the rehearsals all are showing
marked improvement.
The Owl lunch wagon now has a
tamale annex. The article is from the
leading San Francisco manufacturers
nd: is first-class. There is a big de
niand for the tamale.
Another public concert was given by
thd quintette club at the Dimond &
Company store last evening. The ap
platise from the large crowd on the
street was frequent and the store was
crowded till a late hour.
The steamer Noeati arrived in port
yesterday afternoon from Kona and
Kau with cattle and sugar, and report
ing calm weather and northerly swell
on the Hamakua coast, and strong nor--iorthwest
wind in the channel.

Pardon Session.
Only two pardons were granted by the
Council of State at tho session yester
day. Sam Johnson, a Chinese opium
smuggler at Wailuku, was the first to re
reive clemency. He pets a present of six
months and will return to his home in
San Franeisco. where he says ho has a
haole wife and several children.
A Japanese, quite ill, can leave Oahu
prison at once, instead of waiting till
April.
The Council declined to reduce the sen
tences of the two Japanese murderers
who are in for twenty years. They were
first s nteneed to death, had this com
muted to life imprisonment and a few
years ao secured a change to twenty
The new nine-roller mill for Kukui
haele is being shipped by the Honolulu
Iron Works.
The police people report U a dull
holiday season in their line.
