There was a sruntl concort given at
the oirera house Lusl nislit and the
audience was a large one with a heavy
proportion of Hawaiians. It was an
entertainment by natives, for native
benefits. The Hawaiian Choral Club
was the patron of th-e concert and was
assisted by: Kawainhao Seminary.
Kamehamvha Girls' School, Kamelui-
melia (lire Club. Kamehameha Man
dolin Club and the Waiahole (Koolau)
Zither and Guitar Club. The bene
ficiaries are The Hawaiian R-elief Asso
ciation, the Kapiolani Maternity Home
and th Kawaiahao Girls' Seminary.
The Hawaiian Choral Club has for
its musical -director Professor Theo.
Richards, late principal of Kamehame
ha school. It is due almost entirely
to the efforts of Professor Richards
that the Choral Club was organized
land the. entertainment of last evening
given. The president of the Club is
D. L. Naone. M. K. Xakuina is treas
urer and the secret a it is .). Kumalae.
Miss Cordelia Clymer directed the
Kamehameha Girls chorus and Miss
Human the Kawaiahao Girls' chorus.
M. K. Nakniiia is leader of the Mando
lin Club and C. K. King of the Waia
hole club. The voices of the Hawaii
an Choral Club are:
First Tenors. D. Kealoha. J. Kuma
lae, E. Montgomery, J. M. Ulunahele,
13. Waiwaiole.
Second Tenors. W. Brede, Jr., W. H.
Coney, W. J. Cuelho, D. K. Kamai, S.
Kekahuna, M. K. Xakuina, D. L. Xa-
one, J. H. xaone.
First Bass. L. Joseph, E. Kahele, A.
Kane, L. Makanani, A. McGurn.
Second Bass. W. Ahia, D. Ai. C.
Baker, J. X. Kanaulu, W. Keawe, L.
Kupau, F. McGuire.
The concert was in two parts of six
numbers each and it was thoroughly
enjoyed by all present. In several
numbers there were fifty voices and
the effect was fine. Hawaiian singing
is always appealing and last night, un
der capable direction, and after studi
ous training the singing was not to be
resisted. Ten of the native policemen
gave a chorus. The string music was
melody that was decidedly happy.
It is likely that another concert will
be announced in a few months.

Mr. T. G. Thrum, the veteran pub
lisher of the Hawaiian Annual has been
told a good many times: "This year's
is the best yet." The 1S90 book is at
hand and it will make a most valuable
and interesting addition to the highly
prized series. The editor has put an
immense amount of work into the num
ber. The statistical matter is compact
and clear and the special articles are
timely and will prove useful tor reter-
ence.
If all other books on Hawaii were
destroyed, they could be replaced
through use of a set of the Annuals.
The care and discrimination shown in
the Annual is the feature, the assur
ance of its worth. Mr. Thrum is to re
congratulated on the anniversary num-
hPi- and unless he has published a
ihsaw Pdition. the 1S99 book will soon
be above par. The illustration article
on Old Honolulu and the retrospect
are alone worth the price at which the
Annual is listed.

POINTED QUESTIONS AN
SWERED.
what the use of making a better
article than your competitor if you can
not get a better price for it?
Ans. As there is no difference in
the price the public will buy only the
better, so that while our proms ma
be smaller on a single sale they -will
be much greater in the aggregate.
How can you get the public to now
your make is the best?
If both articles are brougnt promi
nently before the public both are cer
tain to be tried and the public will
very quickly pass judgment on tbem
and use only the better one.
This explains the large sale on
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. The
people have been using it for years
and have found that it can always be
depended upon. They may occasional
ly take up with some fashionable nov
elty put forth with exaggerated
claims, but are certain to return to
the one remedy that they know to be
reliable, and for coughs, colds and
croup there is nothing equal to Cham
berlain's Cougn Remedy. For sale by
