have begged to be killed.

talker will be reduced to everlasting

Major Mcixna!d, the head of the
British expedition which has been ex
ploring East Africa, has started for
Omdurman, and Major Hunter, the re
cently appointed Governor of Omdur
man, ami other Bi:ish officers on a
furlough, have been recalled.
LONDON. Fob. 23. The Dally News
publishes the following dispatch from
Cairo: The Khalifa Is advancing upsn
Omdurman with between 15.000 and
20,000 men. Preparations are proceed
ing to meet him.
A footnote to the dispatch says: The
facta are that Colonel Kitcheners
scouts came in touch with the Khalifa,
strongly intrenched with 10.000 men.
and the British officer having only a
small force, ho found it necessary to
retire on Omdurman. Thl retirement
the Khalifa regarded as a sign of
weakness, and it led him to rally his
forces to the advance. Lord Kitchener
has 9000 men at Omdurman.
