DILLINGHAM IIITERVIEWED Says There Is No Truth In the Re port About Extending the Road to Heela. A special meeting of the stockholders cf the Oahu Railway and Land Com- pany is called for next Monday aftcr- nnnn sinil .vh!l tho ri!W.-t rf thp mit- consideration of the ale of treasury stock aU 801,18 of rumors wore a,!oal concerning the ruturo plans or tne road. These were to the effect that thtt trinenrv ric u-.i m i.o sn!.i nro .... raia lo inft Presrai siocMioiucrs. uiat a o per cent, dividend was to ne ueciarea at 01100 an rKular dividends of per cent, quarterly aiterwani?. tnat tne road was to be immediately extended to Heeia and eventually to Honolulu by means of a tunnel a.t Kalihi or by way of the Pali. To ascertain the tru;h of the?e min ors "a representative called on General Manager B. F. Dillingham yesterday afternoon. The railroad magnate was averse to talking about the matter un til after the meeting, bul finally said: "In my annual report to the directors I have made certain recommendations. one of which relating to tho sale of treasury stock they have considered of sufficient importance to bring before the stockholders. It has at no time been contemplated to sell the whole of the treasury stock but only 1700 shares. I have recommended that this amount be sold to pay for recent permanent improvements and new roiling stock purchased lately. You know that we have built in the last few months two miles of new track to Kahaulki. besides building about forty new cars and pur chasing several large engines. The expense connected with all this has amounted to about $l70,oo. and my recommendation was that enough treasury stock -should be sold to the .... . . A m. stockholders at par pro raia to meex u. Whether this will be done or not de- Infnf1 on t.h stockholders themselves." "How about dividends. Mr. Dilllng- Ur "That will be decided by a meeting 0f thc board of directors, which will ... , i . ing. The directors, of course, will have to be guided by what the stock holders do. If they decide to sell the 1.700 shares of treasury stock, then there may be a small dividend de clared, but whether it will be ." per cent, or not I can't say. That Is a mat ter within the control of the board, and not of an individual stockholder like myself." "How about the quarterly dividends rumored?" was next asked. "There again you should wait until the directors meet. I may say that I have. recommended a 6 per cent annual dividend to be paid in quarterly, in stallments and I have based my recom mendations on the Increased business of the road and the constantly increas ing value of the outside securities held by the company. We have large hold ings in Oahu, Waialua and other se curities which are constantly increas ing in value, and while we are now hauling about 43.000 tons of sugar a Vear we expect to increase that to 1"0.- 000 in a few years. I consider thc pros pects of the road justify an annual 0 per cent dividend from now on. with, perhaps, an occasiona? extra one thrown in." "How about the extension of the road to heeia?" persisted the reporter. "Well, you are wrong there, at all events," said Mr. Dillingham, laugh ing. "No, we have not yet gone into that. Too much money has been need ed for new rolling stock and track to think of extending the main road any further just now. That is entirely a matter for future consideration." Siiit I)isinied.
