THREE RESIGNATIONS ACCEPTED Plans for the Summer School Lo cation of Reform School to be Decided Soon. Minister E. A. Mott-Smith preside! at yesterday's meeting of the Board of Education. The first matter brought up was a large number of applications. Thcs came from all parts of the Islands and from various sections of the Coast. They were referred to the teachers committee. The resignations of E. H. Gibson of Pahoa school. Puna; Charles Weather- bee of Hoou school, liana. Maul; W. Vredenberg of Walmea school. Hawaii, were read and accepted. A communication from Prof. Scott of Holualoa, Hawaii, was road. It re ferred to some school property which was secured by a long lease from a native owner a few years ago. Since then the records of the transaction have been mislaid. This fact has be come known to parties who are desir ous of obtaining the property in ques tion and who are endeavoring to take advantage of the fact that the papers have been lost. The matter was re ferred to Secretary Rodgers for Inves tigation. The committee appointed to find a suitable location for the. Reform school will be able to report shortly. The members are Prof. Alexander. Allan Herbert and Prof. Needham. Various sites have been investigated, but as yet no final choice has been made. Af ter the institution is established in Its new location some work suggested by the Industrial Reports lately received from the United States will probably be introduced. f The program of the work to be car ried on at this season's Summer School is being prepared by Secretary Lem- mon, of the Hawaiian Educational As sociation, and will be ready in a few- days. It is expected that there will Ik? some innovations which will tend to make the session more interesting than usual. The exhibits have nearly all arrived. Among them are some won derfully clever specimens which were not prepared for tho special occasion, but were taken from the every-dav work of the pupils. At yesterday's meeting of the Hoard the following were present: President Mott-Smith. Secretary Rodgers. Prof. Alexander. Chas. Hop kins. Prof. Gibson. Dr. Maxwell and J. Q. Wood. The Walalua Hotel. The Walalua Hotel will probably be thrown open to the public very short ly. All the furniture has arrived anil is rapidly being Installed. The elec trie lights which are furnished bv the hotel's own plant are all working well and when they are all turned on at night a beautiful scene is presented. A large number of people are planning to visit the hotel and on the opening day it is probable that excursion trains will be run to Walalua. Rapid Transit Matters. It will be November before the ma terial ordered for the Rapid Transit Company's electric line can reach Hon olulu. It will be sent overland to San Francisco so as to save valuable time which would be consumed by the voy age around the Horn. Already the company has saved $1S,000 on the dif ference in the cost price of the 3.C"' tons of rails required when the order was placed and the rates prevailing to day. Waterfront ?amhlcrs Arrested.
