H. Brims, one of the oldest resi dents of these islands, died early this morning after a short illness, at the family residence. The deceased has carried on a cooperage business on lower Fort street for a number of years. Besides a wife the late J H. Bruns leaves to mourn his loss severa grown up sons and daughters well known throughout the islands. Labor Day Hall. Everything is in readiness for the La bor Day ball to be given tonight. The drillshed has been artistically decor ated by a corps of workers under Har ry Zinn. One of the features of the evening will be a cake-walk, which will be led by James Post and May Ashley. The prize cake is a magnifi cent -work of art, and everybody is eligible to contest." The music will be furnished by the Quintette Club. A cordial welcome awaits everybody who wishes to attend. Runaways and 5mashups. There were three or four runaways and smash-ups in Palama in the vi cinity of Dowsett lane Saturday night. The most serious of these was that of L. L. McCandless, who was driving in a brake. This rig was considerably damaged and Mr. McCandless received a good shaking-up and several bruises. BORN. LINCOLN At Naalehu, Kau, Hawaii, August 22, 1899, to the wife of L. P. Lincoln, a daughter. DIED. BRUNS In this city, Sept. 4, 1899, J. H. Bruns, a native of Germany, aged about 70 years. At Central Union Church yesterday morning Rev. Kincaid preached his first sermon since his vacation. His subject was "A Present Christ." Rev. H. A. Cordo occupied the pulpit in the evening. , A. T. Atkinson left by the Rio de Janeiro for Washington, where he will confer with the officials in regard to his recent appointment as superintend ent of the Hawaiian census. The baseball game between teams from E. O. Hall & Son's and T. H. Da vies & Co. was won by the. latter. Runs were numerous with errors in proportion. The Y. M. C.
