Beumgartner's homing birds today won the 150-mile race under the auspices of the Milwaukee district, National Federation of American Homing Pieeon Fanciers, from Wi nona, 111., to this city. The bird not only, defeated a field of 171 contestants, but broke the United States record for that distance. The winner's flight was mads at the rate of 1G51.19 yards a minute, or a fraction over fifty-six miles an hour.- This beats the best record Dreviously ' made, which was 1G17.3." held bv a bird owned by Dr. D.
