While everybody has been discussing the merits of Italians, Portuguese, ne groes and others as possible sources from which the present and?.re la bor supply of these Islands is to be ob tained, IK would appear that one na tionality has been overlooked, if there is any truth in the following telegram from Ottawa, published in the Victoria Semi-Weekly Colonist of August 24 "OTTAWA, Aug. 22. Two Finnish gentlemen have arrived in Ottawa on the way to visit Western Canada with the object of selecting a suitable site for a settlement of several thousands of their countrymen who propose emi grating from the Czar's dominion. "The delegates have been in New foundland, whither they were attracted by glowing pictures of its agricultural possibilities set forth in a handbook issued by the Government at St. Johns. They, however, found nothing in Newfoundland to justify the claims for the island as an agricultural coun try. "The delegates are men of culture and good presence. They say they hope to hnd in British Columbia an ideal location -for a Finnish settlement. The delegates leave for the West to day." In view of the situation at present confronting the sugar industry of these Islands it would seem that the Hawaii an Sugar Planters' Association could not use too much haste in getting into communication with these Finnish gentlemen, even If an agent were sent especially to Victoria to meet them. LITTLE MURIEL RICHARDS. Buried in Kawaiahao Cemetery With Impressive Services. From the residence of Mr. and Mrs J. B. Atherton, on King street, yester day afternoon the funeral of little Mur iel Richards, who was accidentally drowned on the previous day, took place. The large house was crowded with friends. The services were con ducted by Rev. W. M. Kincaid, whose words were full of tenderness and comfort. A choir composed of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hall, Mrs. C. B. Damon and Mr. F. B. Damon sang several ap propriate hymns, after which the lit tie white casket was lifted from the wilderness of flowers under which it reposed and borne to Kawaiaho Ceme tery, where it was interred in the fam ily plot. The pallbearers were F. C. and C. H. Atherton, who, in token of the youth of their burden, were dressed in white. It was noticed by those who viewed the remains that the little hands were closed upon a big, beauti ful lily. It was while reaching for that same lily that the little one lost her balance, fell into the water and met her death. MAGGIE MOORE COMPANY. Last Appearance of the Australian Players Tonight. "The Silence of Dean Maitland" is the play selected for the farewell per formance of the Maggie Moore-H. R. Roberts Company at the Opera House tonight. In this play Mr. Roberts gives one of his finest impersonations, and it is one which is a favorite with himself. All the members of the com pany will appear in the cast, and they should be greeted by a large audience. The company leaves on the Mariposa on Friday, and expect to open for a short season at the Columbia theater, San Francisco. From thence they will make for Manchester, England, play ing a few nights in each of the larger American cities en route. After a sea son of some weeks in Manchester the company will go to London for a short time, and then on to South Africa, their original destination. From South Africa they will return to New Zealand, Sydney and Melbourne. Secretary Coates. Assistant Secretary Coates of the Y. M. C. A. will arrive by the Alameda today. Tomorrow night a reception will be tendered him in the association hall, where all of the members and guests will have the opportunity of meeting and shaking hands with him. A pleas ing program, which will include selec tions by the Amateur Orchestra, sing ing by Charles Elston, and violin and piano numbers by Dr. O. E. and Miss Allie-Wall, has been arranged. Every body is cordially invited to attend. A Congressman tells the story that, being elected to deliver an eulogy on a deceased colleague whom he had not known, he consulted Mr. Reed, then the Speaker, upon what to say. ISN'T everything to good store keeping; even a good salesman fails when he tries to sell cau tiously, clothing that isn't made as it should be. In the long run only the best clothing pays; especially when the best clothing can be had at the price of the next best. Our clothing is so well made, so at tractive in appearance and looks so desirable that it re quires less energy and breath and persuasion on the part of the salesman to sell It. After we have sold it once, we can sell it with still less ef fort to the same customer. It is the kind of clothing that brings your customer back again and again the kind with which we can build up a lasting trade.
