There's as much difference between plumbing and SANI PLUMBING as there is between daylight and darkness. Anyone can put a lot of pipe3 together and run them otf anywhere, but with Honolulu's surface sewerage the essential point is to have the plumbing done in a way that makes tho Sanitary conditions perfect. TEL. 410 Net Importations Into Australia For the Last Year Narrow Margin of Profit In the Business. The progress maiie by sugar last season was very sreat. the output in creasing from D7.&16 tons in l.7 to 163,731 in 1S1S. The average yi.-M is still low, standing lower than almost any other sugar-producing colony. Ja va and the Sandwich Islands produce more than three times as much .-ugar per acre. This is due entirely to th-ir system of cultivation and manuring. It was not so long ago since the manure from the Queensland Meat Works was going to Mauritius, so enabling that island to complete successfully with us in the Melbourne and Adelaide mar kets. The net importations of sugar into Australia were, for lS'js: New South Wales. 34.C7S tons; Victoria. r;..VJ7 tons; South Australia. 28.103 tons; .Western Australia. 7.2 IS tons; Tasma nia, 6.732 tons; total. 127.310 tons. If we add 24,300 tons, the estimated con sumption of Queensland, we have a total of 139,610 tons required by the colonies proposing to enter into Fed eral Union. To supply this amount we made last year 1C3.734 tons, so that U will be seen that we are already pro ducing 12,124 tons In excess of the Aus tralian requirements. The narrow margin of profit now earned by those engaged in the sugar industry leads us to look for some means "to enable growers of cane to Increase their In crease, at the same time lessening the risk of ruin through having one crop only. This will probably be found in dairying in combination with sugar growing. We have examples of the successful combination of these two industries in one district of the colo ny, where the cane-grower is able and willing to send to the mill at a price which would be considered ruinous were they not improving the land with the manure got from cattle and using as feed the cane tops which were hith erto burnt and so wasted.
