has shown an increase over the pre
ceding one.
There is no reason to expect any ces
sation of this steady annual increase
for some years to come. The Trans
vaal has not nearly reached its limit:
Australia, particularly West Austra
lia, is not yet half developed: Alaska
and the Yukon hav only fairly begun
to produce, while the recent steady In-cx-eases
in Colorado ami other Western
States show no si:;ns of abating.
The world's production of silver in
1SDS was 163.29.Vm2 ounces line, show
ing an increase over 1SU7 of 1.222.4o
ounces tine.
The world's consumption of the pre
cious metals in ill arts and manufac
tures during the year was: In new-
