There was quite a procession in and
out of the harbor Saturday. The Han
cock which was anchored off port was
the first to leave then followed the Til
lie Star buck for New York and the St.
Katherine for San Francisco with su
gar. The schooner Lady got away for
Oahu ports and the steamer Waialeale
for Kauai and the Maui on the Clau
dine's run got off in the afternoon. The
island steamers camp in all day, the
Nilhau from Maui, the Ke Au Hou from
Kauai and the J. A. Cummins from
Oahu ports. The schooners Concord
and Luka from Hawaii and the Norma
from Maui ports arrived after quite
long trips from here. The ship Chap
man from San Francisco first reported
on Thursday and which disappeared put
in an appearance In the afternoon and
was brought Into the harbor.
Yesterday the W. O. Hall and James
Makee arrived from Kauai bringing
sugar and the Mokolil gut in from Molo
kai. Need of a Dry Dock.
The needs of the harbor will greatly
increase in the event of the cable com
ing to these Islands. Honolulu's Im
portance as a mid-Pacific port of call
cannot be gainsaid, and as a ship goes
to Delaware breakwater or Astoria
lor orders sr will vesse.s put in here.
Thi3 port will, as the commerce of the
Pacific grows, be more sought for. The
establishment of a modern dry dock is
a possibility of the future. Its netd has
been felt here more than once as it is,
and it is sure to come. The new
steamers which are to piy in the Isl
and trade are promised soon. The ac
commodations for them at present are
slim. The wharves at present being
hardly adequate for the shipping now
coming here, it is understood that Mr.
Uurnham of Flint & Co. of New York,
Lately here, has advised his firm to
make overtures to the United States
Government in an effort to eecure the
right to build a long wharf and ware
house makal of the new quarantine
wharf for the accommodation of the
sugar trade. It Is figured that a wharf
1,200 feet long can be constructed
which will be a great boon to the sugar
shippers If the scheme Is carried
through.
Sugar Shipments.
The Kauai from Kilauea brought
770 bas. of Kilauea sugar to V. O.
Irwin & Co. and 23 bags of wool. The
Ke Au Hou from Walmea brought 3?90
bags of sugar, 1390 of It being for II.
M. von Holt and 2G0O for II. Hackfeld
& Co. The Mlkahala from Makaweli
brought 5100 sacks of sugar to Alex
ander & Baldwin. The Nl.hau from La
taina brought 000 sacks sugar to II.
Hackfeld & Co. The Jas. Makee
brought 2,550 sack 3 of Makee Sugar
Company sugar and forty bundles
hides from Kapaa. The V. G. Hall
from Hanamaulu brought 6001 sacks
sugar to H. Hackfeld & Co. All the
steamers from Kauai report rough
water and copious showers. Sa hard
did it rain that the loading was ma
terially interfered with. The rains have
been very general all along the Kauai
coast.
Valuable Cargoes.
The Tillie K. Starbuck left for New
York Saturday with 6.288.466 lbs. of
sugar, valued at I255.69S.74. The St.
Katherine for San Francisco took
3,625.t00 lb3. sugar, valued at 152.34
and the cargo of the Czarina which left
t riday was 2.593.W3 lbs. of sugar of the
value of $102,327. The three cargoes
amounted to 12507.699 lbs. of a total
valuation of J510.759.74.

wharf discharging.
The French cruiser Protet Is exnect-
ed here this week from San Francisco.
The E. D. Sutton will Lake hpr nuenr
to San FrancLsco returning' here with
freight.
The Ceylon and Planter were to have
left San Francisco on Anrll 18th for
this port.
The schoonei John A. left Kaananall
for San Francisco April 27 with 7.000
sacks sugar.
The Jas. Makee brought two loners
from Lihtie, Kauai. One was a German
woman the other a Chinaman.
The actual draught of the Hancock
when she sailed for Manila was 28 feet
forward and 28 feet 3 inches aft
The freight from the Coptic was In
the fumigating room all dsy yesterday.
Jack McVeigh and chip Charlock were
the engineers in charge.
K. Ye3terdar there were hirtv-elsht
ming vetfels in the harbor. All but
six or them were American. One was
German, two British and three Hawaii
an. The American ship I. F. Chapman
came into the harbor Saturday after
noon. She came from San Franc Uco in
ballast and will load sugar here for
New York.
The steimer Horda Is discharging
coal at the Richards street slip. The
coal i9 for the United Statej Navy. The
Horoa will get away about Wednesday
or Thursday for San D ego in ballast.
All the Inter-island steamers arriv
ing Saturday and yesterday brought
larpe cargoes of sugar. The product Is
still piling up on Kauai from where
most of the boats came ard when the
last one left there were 131,000 bag
ready for shipment.

the port of Honolulu arid all other
place In the Hawaiian Islands to be
free from Infection by bubonic plague.
All quarantine regulations adopted by
the Board of Health on account of bu
bonic plague la the Hawaiian Islands
are hereby rescinded.
