Socond "Ben Hur" Fortune.
General Wallace made an inde
pendent fortune out f the novel nf
BcB Hur." and it appears likely that
he will acquire another by the stage
Vf-rslon of his book. Klaw & Erlanger
have just paid him $30,000 In royalties
for the six months the piay has been
running at the Broadway Theater, the
gross receipts for that period being
$450,000. General Wallace was not r -quired
to write anything for his mon
ey. All that he did for It was to sign
a contract giving William Young per
mission to dramatize it for the use of
Klaw & Erlanger. It looks as if the
play would last for several seasons, and
it is possible that General Wallace will
receive at least ten times $30,000 before
"Ben Hur" is laid on the shelf.
