An Englishman made a wager that he could cook a plum pudding ten feet beneath the surface of the Thames, and won the bet by placing the pud ding In a tin case and putting the whole in a sack of lime. The heat of the lime slaking when it came in con tact with the water was sufficient to cook the pudding in two hours. S. 8 Miowera, from Vancouver aad Victoria. Tidal Wave Sold. The old American bark Tidal Wave, well known in this port. Captain Lie big, has been sold by the Tacoma Mill Company to Heath & Miner, of San Francisco, owners of the bark Gather er and other vessels engaged in the Coast carrying trade. The price paid Is not stated. Mr. Charles E. Hill, however, confirms the rumor of the sale. The Tidal Wave will continue in the lumber carrying trade under char ter to the mill company. The bark Tidal Wave is a wooden vessel of 497 tons register, and Is one of the pioneers of Puget Sound, al though by no means as old as the Dashing Wave. She was built at Port Madson years ago, and since she was purchased by the Tacoma Mill Com pany she has ben used as a lumbei carrier between Tacoma and San Fran olsco.
