The lirst game of the winter league series was played at Punahou on' Sat urday in the presence of a small crowd. After a well-contested and even game the E. O. Hall & Son team went down in defeat before the Custom House ni M by the score of 9 to 7. The game was eight all until the eighth, when Wilikoki could no longer stand up to the lightning vollies of Kaai. The spectators, or rather the Custom House rooters, saw this and did their best to rattle Kaai, hooting hoots of scornful derision. The nefarious scheme worked and the Hall pitcher was made to look like a sewing ma chine agent in a Kanaka colony on Ka mehameha Day. The Smugglers played tag and ring a ring of roses -with him and added four cases of No. 1 to their stock in trade. The Ironmongers were held down to one in their concluding essay and the game ended. The game by innings: First Inning. Gleason singled; Hans man hit to Wilder who threw Gleason out at second; Kaai made a two base hit scoring Hansman. On Durfee's muff to catch Kaai at third the runner scored. Cunha went to base on balls, and was thrown out trying to steal second. Llsh man struck out. Two runs. Gorman singled and stole second; Scan lon went out, Kiwa to Cunha, sending Gorman to third; Gorman scored on NoWelTs base hit; Gay went out, Kaai to Cunha; Durfee went out, Kiwa to Cunha. One run. Second inning Wilcox hit to Scanlon and was out; Paris retired, Clarke to Scanlon; Kiwa out, Nowell to Scanlon. No runs. Clarke got a life on Kaai's wild throw of his grounder; Clarke stole third; Wil der hit to I.ishman, and Clarke was thrown out at the plate; Bowers went to base on balls; Tucker went to base on halls; Gorman, with three on base, hit to Lishman and Wilder was thrown out at home; Scanlon flew out to Gleason. No runs. Third inning Koki went out, Nowell to Scanlon; Gleason took his base on balls; Hansman got his base on some wild throwing but Gleason was put out at third; Kaai gave Gay a chance to retire him on a long foul to right but Gay dropped the. ball and Kaai flew out to Bowers. No runs. Nowell made a three base hit; Gay flew out to Hansman, who made a good running catch, Nowell scoring on the throw in; Durfee flew out to Koki; Clarke flew out to xviwa. One run. Fourth inning Cunha went out, Clarke to Scanlon; Lishman got first on Durfee's error; Wilcox fouled out to Gorman; Paris hit to Nowell who fumbled; Kiwa hit to Durfee who muffed the. hall, Lish man scoring; Koki hit safely and Paris scored; Gleason hit safely and Kiwa scored; Hansman went out, Clarke to Scanlon. Three runs. Wilder hit to Gleason and was out at first; .bowers went to first on balls; Tucker was safe on Llshman's error; Gorman made a two-base hit to center, scoring the two on bases and came home himself when Wilcox let Koki's throw pass him; Scanlon retired, Gleason to Cunha; Nowell singled and stole second; Gay flew out to Kiwa. Three runs. Fifth inning Kaai and Cunha struck out; Lishman was out, Wilder to ..can Ion. No runs. Durfee out, Kiwa to Cunha; Clarke sot first on Lishman's error; Wilder fouled out to Cunha, and Wilcox caught Clarke napping and threw nim out at first. No runs. Sixth inning Wilcox got first on Wil der' s error; Paris flew out to Wilder; Kiwa hit to Wilder, who threw to Nowell, putting out Wilcox, and Nowell got the ball to first In time to retire the batter, making a neat double play. No runs. Bowers struck out; Tucker out, Glea son to Cunha; Gorman out, Kiwa to Cunha. No runs. Seventh Inning Koki hit to Nowell and retired at first; Gleason fouled out to Gorman, who made a beautiful catch; Hansman flew out to Gay. No runs. Kaai went in the box, Kiwa going to third base; Kaai hit Scanlon wjo took first; Nowell sacrificed, sending Scanlon to second; Gay hit to Kaai who threw Scanlon out at third; Gay stole second and third on a poor throw; Durfee struck out. No runs. Eighth inning Kaai went out at first: Cunha took first on Scanlon's failure to touch the bag; Cunha took second on a passed ball; Lishman got nrst on Bow er's fumble; Wilcox hit to Wilder and Cunha was forced at third; Lishman stole second and third; Lishman came home on a passed ball; Paris struck out. One run. Clarke made a base hit; stole second and third; Wilder and Bowers went to first on balls; Tucker flew out to Glea son; Gorman got first on Kiwa's error. Clarke scoring; Scanlon made a hit scor ing Wilder and Bowers; Scanlon stole second and Gorman scored on a passed ball; Scanlon tried to steal third and Wilcoxthrew him out; Nowell went to first on balls and stole second; Gay flew out to Lishman. The Advertiser nine had a practice at Makiki Saturday afternoon in prepara tion for next Saturday, when they will play the Republicans and Sinners for the printers' championship. The next league game will be between the Capitols and the Police. Yesterday at Kapiolani Park the Eagles and the Red Men met in friend ly rivalry. The affair was kept a pro found secret and no one but the brew ery company knew anything about it. The game started at 11 a. m. and con cluded a little before 4 o'clock, the Eagles flying home winners by a score of 21 to 19. Fred. Smith and M. Andrade were the Eagles' battery and Duke McNichol and AL Moore did the same thing for the Indians. "Arnica" Brown umpired the game until somebody stopped him. when "Diamond Ring" Gorman ruled in his stead.
