G. Amweg. But, exceeding ly to the regret of the society, Mrs. Westervelt, at our regular meeting In June, felt obliged, owing to ill health, to resign the office of president. Mrs. C. B. Damon was thereupon elected In her place, with Mrs. Ralph Geer as vice pres ident. We have had, on the whole, rather an encouraging year as regards the work accomplished, even though our member ship roll Includes but eighty names. against ninety-six for last year, a state of affairs difficult to understand, In view of our large Increase of church member ship during the past two years. Can we not find some effectual method by which the influence of this society and its work may be increased proportionately? For we firmly believe that this seeming lack of interest is owing principally to entire Ignorance on the part of many of our ladies of even the existence of such a so clety. Surely our work Is a sufficiently important branch of our church society to enlist the Interest and co-operation of every lady In attendance upon our church services If only the needs and scope of our organization could be brought to the notice of each. We fe-l. In these days of the stranger within our gates, that our social work la of the greatest Importance in bringing our church membership in closer touch with each other, and we would urge upon our older members our duty In regard to attendance upon, and cordial co-opera tion In, our bi-monthly socials. Of these, six regular and one extra have been held during 4he year the one In January taking the form of a houso warming at the new parsonage on Tlvirs ton avenue soon aftr the removal of our pastor and Ms family. This proved to be a most enjoyable occasion, and was participated in by several hundred of the church anil congregation. The social regularly occurring In September was postponed until October in oider to make it a welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Kincald after an absence of severnl month?. whl! the November social was delayed to be givengjln connection with the annual roll cnil held last evening, December loth. The extra social occurred in August as ja farewell to Dr. and Mrs. Adams of San Francisco. Dr. Adams having preached for us during Mr. Kincaid's summer vacation. Four regular meetings of the society have been held during the year, and two Special meetings of officers and directors. V" have held also two entertainments an anernoon tea in renruary. inrougn the courtesy of Mrs. J. B. Atherton at her beautiful home, and a chowder lun cheon at the church In October. The first had for its object the promotion of sociability among our church ladles, and the collection of membership fees, and, while not a striking success as to the ob ject last named. It certainly was in the former, since two or three hundred ladles availed themselves of Mrs. Atherton's kind invitation, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by all, for which thi society owes Mrs. Atherton most a rtjr thanks. The luncheon given in October was f r the benefit of our benevolent fund, f -'to which we netted about ninety-six liars.
