P.O. E 181. r61 Alakea Street. Taphne Main 9t The court of Ore commissioners com pleted their labors yesterday moraine, and will file their awards as soon as the remainder of the certificates have l been signed. As a final climax to their ! i I labors the commission devised a way ! by which they will pay back the $4000 i oorrowea irom tnc nonoiuiu mercnants II a few months aao to carrv the work of the fire court to the end. This will be done by a charge of a small fee to each claimant when he receives the certificate of award. , Following the completion of their la bors yesterday morning; the fire com missioners called upon Governor Coop er and so reported, receiving; the thanks of the acting" executive. Notices of the awards in a good many cases are already In the hands of Audi tor Austin, and as soon as they are announced by the fire courts the cer tificates will be given out. The awards will be announced within a few weeks, and only a small number will be given out each day. so that neither auditor nor commission will be overworked. All the awards have now been signed ex cepting five books by Commissioner F. J. T-Ma. J. O. Pratt, who is n..w in Washington, has not signed, but as it requires only a majority of thn signa ture of the commissioners to make the awaid legal and binding, there will he no delay bcause of his absence. The commission examined over 6700 claims. and the total of the awards will reach Into the millions. The appropriation made by the legislature was hut II. .100.- 000. but the awards of the court will be more than that sum it is thought, as 'mmlssloncr Pratt has asked for an appropriation from ongress of 13.000. 000. This was the aggregate of the claims filed, but the c-ourt reduced thi amount considerably, and it would not be a great surprise if the final figures showed that the total awards were .vithtn th- .-Miniate of the legislature, or at least not in excess of $2,000,000. The certificates of award will now be placed In the hunds of the auditor, who 'n turn will make out the warrants upon the treasurer. These warrants will be payable In one. two and three years respectively, so that as a matter of fart the claims are not payable for one year yet. I 'u.loubtedly. however, the warrants can be discounted at the local banks, as has been done in other cases. Following the signing of the records of judgments the commission went into executive session, when the following resolution was introduced by Commis sioner Kepoikai. by which it is hoped to v. cure a sufficient return for the oayment f the expanses of the com mission in excess of the appropriation: That the chairman 1m- and is hereby empowered to oversee the clerk in com pleting the re oils and other clerical work of the commission: to make up a financial statement of the receipt and disbursements of the commission; to make up a general report of the work of the commission to the governor: to iu- certificates of awards to claim ants and to collect a fee for each cer tificate of award bused upon the fol low lug schedule: Awards of $-V) arTfi under $0 2 Awards of $100 and under SO Awards of $.".00 and under 1 00 Awards of $Srt and over 4 00 And from the proceeds of the above and any other funds of the commission i liquidate all outstanding obligations of the commission.
