Catholic church of Kalihi-waena, where
hundreds of Portuguese rendered hom

zles of five or six cannon peeped out
in a warlike manner from the dense

I laughter of the crowds below, and the
ritual of the feast being celebrated with
I solemnity within the chapel, formed a
series of scenes which were of intense
