She brought practi cally no freight. Purser Friel reports that the Mikahala'was at Waimea and had discharged all her freight. The bkt W. B. Flint is at Makaweli waiting for sugar. The bkt. Encore is still dis charging coal at Eleele. - She has now landed 750 tons. The weather was fine all over Kauai and the trip back across the channel especially smooth. . Claudlne 1. Back The Claudine brought 23 cabin pas sengers and a fair amount of freight this trip. The weather was fine and the sea smooth. She brought the following cargo: 1 cow, 53 hogs, 23S sacks corn and 132 packages of sundries. The Qaudine does not sail on her outward trip until Wednesday afternoon. Shipping Notes. RAILROAD'S NEW HEAD Week's Doing Generally In and About r Hilo. HILO, Nov. 4. W. H. Lambert has been succeeded as superintendent of the Hilo Railroad Co. by D. E. Metz ger, who has been in charge of the com pany's accounts for six months( and previously in the effice of the O. R. & L. Co., Honolulu. Mr. Metzger was an attorney and a newspaperman in Kan sas, who began railroading business in Colorado ten years ago. Mr. Leonard, late of the O. R. & L. Co., succeeds Mr. Metzger as cashier. A SAD LOSS. Mrs. Mary B. Reinhardt, a niece of John T. Baker, died of consumption in Hilo on Friday night week. She was In her 26th year, having been the daugh ter of the late Edward Baker, Maka- wao, Maui. Besides her husband, Chas. Reinhardt, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Geo Copp, and four brothers. Shells described as. having been one of Ha waii's brightest young women. GENERAL ITEMS. Of 26 names drawn for next grand jury, it is believed 11 are of exempt persons, and the trial jury draft is equally as bad a job of the commission, Lau Chan, after serving a week for the larceny of Panama hats, escaped from the chain gang. Another wild steer episode on the streets occurred Wednesday, when Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McLean were knocked into a ditch by a beast that escaped from a herd. Announcement is made of the en gagement of Mrs. Bernice Reid to Christian Castendyk, head clerk of the local branch of H. Hackfeld & Co., Ltd.
