Makikis the Winners.
Punahous Beat
Pacifies.
Lightning doesn't often strike twice
In the same place, and it was probably
due to this old rule that the Artillerys
followed up their victory of the pre
vious Sunday by being defeated yes
terday afternoon by the Makikl base
ball nine. Is it was. most of the
glory achieved last week when Staple
ton did the trick, for the Khaki Wear
ers, was lost yesterday when the Ma
kikis heid them down to but a single
run. This was taken in the first in
ning and the remainder of the game
scored up a long lovely line of eggs.
The score was 4 to 1 in favor of the
Makikis.
The first game between the Puna
hous and Pacifies went to the former
team, score 9 to 5. This is the first
game the Punahous have really won,
the only other one (standing to their
credit being taken by default. The Pu
nahous put up a smart game ana neia
their opponents down surprisingly well.
"Dick" Garvin umpired and did his
duty, well. His decisions were quick
and snappy and left little ; room for
doubt.
' MAKIKIS VS. ARTILLERYS.
The Gun Polishers were not In it for
a minute yesterday, althougn tney
played practically an errorless game.
The Makikis made errors, but despite
raggedness at times they gave their
opponents no material advantage at
any time. .
The Makikis were first at 'the oat
but failed to do anything startling.
The Artillerys took the hickory with a
determination to do things. Eggling
came home on & wild pitch at a critical
moment. That was the only score the
Artillerys had during the game.
In the second inning both nines
took eggs. ;
The third inning gave Freitas a liner
which sent him to first, he Btealing
second at once. En Gee was hit In the
neck and walked to first. Roe smash
ed to'leftfield and filled the bases. "With
Harry Bruns at the bat Gephart made

home. En Gee tried to double the score
but found the catcher standing on the
home plate with the ball in his hand
Another wild pitch brought Roe and
Hr Bruns home, making a total of
three.
OF THE MULTITUDES
who have used it, or are now us
ing it, we have never heard of
any one who has been disappoint
ed in it. No claims are made for
it except those which are amply
justified by experience. In com
mending it to the afflicted we
simply point to its record. ' It
has done great things, and it is
certain to continue the excellent
work. There is we may hon
estly affirm- no medicine which
can be used with greater and
more reasonable faith and confi
dence. It nourishes and keeps up
the strength during those periods
when the appetite fails and food
cannot be digested. To guard
against imitations this " trade
mark" is put on every bottle of
" Wampole's Preparation' and
without it none is genuine. It
is palatable as honey and con
tains the nutritive and curative
properties of Pure Cod Liver Oil,
extracted by us from fresh cod
livers, combined with the Com
pound Syrup of Hypophosphites
and the Extracts of Malt and
Wild Cherry. Taken before meals
it creates an appetite, aids diges
tion, renews vital power, drives
out disease germs, makes the
blood richi red and full of con
structive elements, and gives
back to the pleasures and labours
of the world many who had
abandoned hope. Doctor S. H.
McCoy, of Canada, says: "I testify
with pleasure to its unlimited
usefulness as a tissue builder."
Its curative powers can always
be relied upon. It makes a new
era in medicine, and is beneficial
from the first dose. "You can
trust it as the Ivy does the Oak."
One bottle convinces. Avoid all
unreliable imitations. Sol by
chemists throughout the world.

The Artillery rooters began to sub
side when the Makikis' score went up.
In the fourth Inning Aylett walked to
first and was brought in by Freitas,
who raised the sphere way over sec
ond base into the center garden. That
was the last run made during the
game for either side.
In the Fourth the Makikis almost
made a mess of things when Aylett and
G. Bruns played Alphonse and Gaston,
while Cramer's swat of the sphere
dropped between them, but Bruns took
it in safely.
The fifth, sixth and seventh innings
went serenely by without much steam
escaping from either side.
"When the Artillerys came to the bat
in the eighth inning there was all kinds
of excitement. The Artillery rooters
made the most of an attempt to rattle
the Makikis, but the Makikis didn't
scare worth a cent. Johnson went safe
to first and eventually reached third,
where he also incidentally died. Stone
was hit in the side and took his base.
Stapleton was put out by the batted
ball striking him. When Reardon
whacked, Johnson came flying in to
ward home and the Artillerys thought
they had a tally, but were sent bac
by the umpire to their bags. Eggling
and Ripberger dashed all hopes by
striking out.
Then came the ninth inning which
gave little hope to the Makikis, for three
quick strike-outs settled matters.
The Artillerys took their last chance.
Gephart whacked a safe one and went
to first, Connell unfortunately flew out
to Honan in rightfleld. Honan imme
diately threw the ball to first base,
which Gephart had alrt-ady left and
had about reached second base. The
double play was a pretty one. Then
Reardori raised the bat. A swish and
a strike was recorded. A ball was al
lowed. Then another swish and two
strikes were announced, One more
swish through the empty air and the
Makikis had safely won the game.
. The teams lined up as follows:

Then the Pacifies surprised their op
