A very interesting illustrated lecture on Australia was given last night in the main dining room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel by Mr. Wolfe Hart. The lecture was for the benefit of the Free Kindergarten and Children's Aid Society and was well attended. Mr. Hart showed a great number of fine pictures, those of the great caves be ing specially good. He gave a short resume of Australian conditions and figure and followed this by taking his hearers up many lovely inlets and bays, around bold coasts and far inland. , MILITARY HOP FOR THE LOGAN. a dance will be given tonight at tha lioyal Hawaiian Hotel in honor of Captain Wendell L. A pending county ordinance, intro duced by Supervisor Lucas, gives mem bers of the Fire Department making good conduct records a vacation of twelve days each year. The almost forgotten law against sell ing tobacco to minors was brought into play against sixteen Asiatics to the tune of one dollar and costs each in the police court yesterday. Notice has been given to the several counties by the Inter-Island Steam Navigation Co. that the transportation of witnesses and others, on account of counties, must be prepaid. An ordinance submitted by Super visor Lucas fixes the speed limit of automobiles at eight miles an hour in town, reduced to four miles at cross ings, and provides for having chauf feurs certified on examination. Deputy County Attorney Milverton has rendered an opinion to the Board of Supervisors, to the effect that it would be inadvisable to pull up the Rapid Transit Co.'s rails on Queen st. except through legal proceedings. Mrs. H. E. It is admitted that many applications have been re ceived. Superintendent Davis is silent and stated yesterday afternoon that he had nothing to say. The opinion of Deputy County At torney Milverton that the county has no power to cause the Queen street tracks of the Rapid Transit to be torn up was communicated to Superintend end of Public Works C. S. Holloway yesterday. Superintendent Holloway stated that he had not determined what course of action to take or whether he would do anything at all in the matter.
