Then he brighten ed up. "I'll tell you one -thing," he said, "I've been keeping tab on this Sun day business and I never before saw so many men with skates on as I saw last Sunday night. Mighty big difference in the showing from, what it was a few weeks ago." "You're right," said the reporter. work and it's time to show it up." That evening the Bulletin under the heading Sunday Drinking is on the In crease, quoted "High Sheriff" Doyle as follows: High Sheriff Chester Doyle- is au thority for the statement made this morning when interviewed on the subject of Sunday closing of saloons by the recent order made by the Liquor License Commission, that he has witnessed more drunk enness in the city, especially on Sunday nights, since the order went into effect than at any period for years in the history of Honolulu. . "I have kept a close watch of the matter," said Mr. Doyle, "to see what the effect of the" Sunday dosing of saloons would be, and I have never seen, so much drunken ness, especially on Sunday nights.. It is keeping us very busy and I don 't know what we are going to do about it if the condition keeps up. I have kept 3 list of cases under any notice and am ready to furnish information on the matter at any time." Doyle did not say all this; but his remark about so many men with skates on Sunday night seemed to bear it out. , Yesterday Doyle went to a cigar store and, asking one of the clerks to listen at the desk phone while he talked, call ed up the Bulletin office and demanded of the reporter why he had been mis-, represented: "We did not misrepresent you Mr. Doyle. We simply printed what yflu said." "Do VOU Tnpa.n t.n cnv ttio T r " " " . bUMfc A. bUJU VOU there was n. Int. n-P A..,, Sunday nights'" - "lou did!
