Advices from Mure Island navy yard
state that a letter Iras been received
from Navy officials at Washington, in
dicating that the collier Prometheus
is to be converted into an oil carrying
steamer.
At present the vessel is at the navy
)ard undergoing repairs to damage re
ceived in the trip to Honolulu and

army engineers in the department
of California have been hard at work
on their part of the progressive mili
tary map of the I'nited States. Not
including the Hawaiian Islands, more
than one-fifth of the total 'area has
been covered to date. The full width
of twenty fie miles back from the
coast line of California, excepting small
areas in Mendocino county, hear San
Francisco bay, and in the vicinity of
Santa Harbara and Los Angeles, have
been completed. The work along the
