CART LEY D. rector The price of Japanese rice has gone up in price from ten to twelve cent; a bag. One of the most prominent mer chants among the Japanese makes this announcement, the figures being shown since the last receipts of rice from Japan. During the early part of the present year the prospect was good for a ban ner crop, and it was believed that the price would go down, but on account of the floods last July the major portion of the erop was destroyed, even the southern and central portions being affected. The total crop for 1910 was greatly diminished and the price has conse quently gone up. When the new crop began to come in it was reported lower and tHat it would go even lower, but very suddenly the price 1ms begun to soar skyward and twelve cents increase per bag has already been noted and the Japanese laboring element is begin ning to be anxious for they depend mainly upon the rice from Japan for their principal food staple. It is predicted that this price will remain the same, at least until Febru ary, when the farmers, who have a supply, will require money from the crops, and they will be compelled to unload. The stock market in Japan has natu rally bo en affected by daily fluctua tions. Local merchants believe there will be no lowering of the price until at least February.
