The First Teacups
Even after toa was introduced in

ubo toacups wore scarce At the
samo time coffeo was introduced
but apart from Constantinople tho
first coffeo cups iu Europe date back
only as far as 1615 in Vonice 1G59 iu
Paris 1G52 in Loudon and 1691 in
Leipsic From the first however
tho couvontional oriental coffee cup
without stem or handle was little
usd and in Germany not At all
Tho Chiueso teacup was used for
tea coffeo and ohocolnto as well
Specimens of porcolain wore un
doubtedly introduced into Eurnpo
iu the middle ages yet not till the
sixteenth century wore cups im
ported from China in any groat
quantities and even then it was as
articles of vortu Most of those
found their way back into Obiun
again as collecting porcelain is a

are paid for good speoimotiR Tho
collection of Chinese porcelain if
only tho genuine specimens are
desired requires immense study and
knowledge as tho Chinese are skill
