The notion of Mr Dole in the
matter of granting a charter to the
Hilo and Honolulu Company recalls
to the memory of the writer a few
remarks made by him Dole at a
mass meeting held in June 1887
when he Btood on a platform and
denounced Boss Utile
On that occasion Mr Dole was
pleased to say There are two
thoughts to which I will call your
attention in our Constitution First
the King conducts his Government
for the common good He has not
done so I am not here to talk
about the Ministers but about the
King for he iB not conducting the
Government for the benefit of the
people Interference with every
thing appertaining to government
has been his rule and ho has sold
his sacrd oath of office to the high
est bidder The principle of minis
terial responsibility haa been inter
rupted and public inoneyn reckless
ly squandered Thoee wore the
sentiments in 1887 Perhaps be has
forgotten the instance but it is
nevertheless of historical record
Dole of 1899 is not the same Dole
as of 1887 The man of 1899 threw

become the head of a revolution
