THE OHUKOH MCILHANT
For tho life of us we fail to see
wherein the Advertiser andJjhn
Bishop of Honolulus opponents
can find much oomfort in tho advise
offered by Bishop Potter of New
York who is not a member of the
committee entrusted with the mat
tors pertaining to Ohuroh affairs
here to by all moans Rat out an in
junction to restrain Bishop Willis
from attempting in auy way to in
terfere with your congregation
And for tho information of all wo
- j j
will here name the members of the
committee of tho Houbo of Bishops
they are Bishops- Nichols Whit
taker and Capers
And still for the farther inform
ation of thoae most interested The
Independent will hare say rwhat
right has Bishop Potter to do with
tho Ohuroh here Let him attend
to his own diocese and let Bishop
Willis attend to hisBphord flfjwbrk
here oarrying into effect the man
dates of the Diooosan Synod
The position of the Ohuroh is on
similar lines as those of tho govern
ment in national as well as in state
and territorial affairs What right
has the Governor of California to
interfere with Governor Dole here
The conditions are very much on
tho same parallel
Tho history of thpGhuroh of Eng
land for ten centuries is a history of
resistance of tho Usurpation of tho
Bishop of Homo and n struggle to
preserve the indopendonoe of the
national Ohuroh In the advloe

1endbnt fuels and believes that
every Bidllop in hv Unite 1 States

Everything nowpphl tint rhe
condition of alfdrfl aad the un
reasonable attitude assumed by
Boaio shows that the Church i
again entering upon its militant
career by an attempt to again ap
peal to the iuterferenoo of the
Courts of law If such is the oourse
to bo adopted it plainly shows the
weakness of the desire of thoae who
clamored for Church annexation
after bsing parties thereto and we
fail to see now wheroin they were so
urgently desirous for the change
And for the edification and de
lectation of all conoerned the
Bishop of Honolulu is now master
of the situation but subject to tho
authority of the Synod and since
b vearing allegiance to tho constitu
tion aud canons of the Protectant
Episcopal Church in the United
