ENFORCEMENT OF
DBtlHQUET TAXES
Iq aot interview with Assessor
Holt ha stated among othors that
one suggestion was mnde during the
recent meetings of ibo respective
OBseasois with regard to the colleo
tion of taxes on property which he
HhinkB is very important It is ou
the line of what Governor Garter
says he has1 found out that there in
no law with whioh to enforce the
collection of taxes by charging
interest only the addition of tho 10
percent penalty when payment
bucomen delinquent The taxes
upon realty cannot he enforced by
selling the same under execution
Now tho oslescors have taken this
up and have considered it to be
later on recommended for favorable
onaotmBnt They will recommend
the provisions- similar to those
provided in the County aai under
Chapter 29 thereof relating to
delinquent taxes and contained in
Sections 231 to 265 iaolusiTO
But the time of redemption for
property sold under delinquent tax
execution be extended to five years
instead of two by paying a certain
stated rate of interest say 10 per
cent per annum on tho whole
amount from the day of oalo and
the amouut of taxes occurring after
aueh sale This Jb a relief to the
property owner and whioh he oan
have time to redeem his property
In the meantime what is to bo
J
done with the property sold under
execution If there has baen uo law
to warrant ouoh sales then the
Yariouo sales should be called off
and tho properties turned over to
their rightful owners
The Government has no doubt
placed itself in a very precarious
position with regard to damage
auite if property owneis should
inptltute them In this connection
Borne legislation is really necessary
whioh the Governor no doubt will
recommend for the serious
deration of tho next Legislasure
