Clarence 3Iacfarfane's fine yacht. La Pzloraa, has been chartered the Wireless Telegraph Company- to take Jtr. Gray, the Marcoal expert, to -Jo- Iofcal, and the other islands of tht? group where stations bare been established. It "arill be a toar of inspection and at all the stations alterations arill have to be made -which put the system in operation in about a month, probably- by the first of the year. The first stop will be made at the station on MolokaL It trill be inspected and any changes made that are necessary, although it is thought that the division between this island and Molokai is sow in the best condition. It is being worked snccessfuUy every day. From Molokai the Paloma trill go to Lanai, tnen to Makena, on Mani. and thence to Hawaii. As soon as the necessary changes are made in the Flattens a final test of the whole system will be made. Convicted Twice. Poloaea, the native convicted Monday for the illicit selling of liquor at his booth in the fishmarket, was tried again yesterday on a, charge of the same nature. He was convicted and sentenced to a term of three months imprisonment and to pay a nne of $500. ij New Steamers for Pacific Trade. Philadelphia, Nov. 26. It is learned that the New York Shipbuilding Company has contracts for building two steel steamers, besides the two of wnich mention has already been made, for the American-Hawaiian S. S. Company. One of these steamers is also for the American Company, but it will be much larger than either of the two previously ordered, while the fourth vessel Is for Robert N. Dollar, the lumber merchant of San Francisco. The steamer for Dollar is to engage n the Pacific coast lumber trade. The essel is to be a single screw steamer of about 300 feet in length. The additional steamer for the American Company, which is to run its vessels between New York ana San Francisco and Honolulu, is to be 470 feet in length and will have twin screws. Pickard, a civil O O engineer, who died a few days O O ago, an expert safe blower, now O O a convict in the state O O tiary here, was loaned to Mrs. O O Pickard by the warden long O O enough for him to open the O O strong box in which the im- O O portant papers were kept. The O O entire affair was kept secret O O and the prisoner was conveyed O O through the city in a closed O U carriage to the safe, which he O O blew open, and was returned O O to his cell before daylight this O O morning. o O AH private papers were lock- O O ed up in Colonel Pickard s stlfe, O O the dead man alone having the O O combination. The town was O O searched in vain for an expert O O to open the safe, and the novel O O plan of securing the services O j of a burglar was adopted.
