Voice of Agriculture In Arizona Woodrow Luttrell, information director for American Farm Bu reau Federation, will headline the Arizona Farm Bureau’s first state-wide agricultural informa tion conference July 19 in Phoenix While the day-long meeting is designed to help Farm Bureau information chairmen and com mitteemen become more effective in Farm Bureau publicity and agri cultural public relations in their local areas, the conference is open to all who are interested in agri cultural public relations, accord ing to Lee Athmer, Arizona Farm Bureau information director. Also scheduled to speak,' in addition to Luttrell and Athmer, are Leonard Johnson, Western region field services director for Farm Bureau, and Marvin Morri son, president of Arizona Farm Bureau Federation. The conference will be held in conjunction with the regular summer meeting of the board of directors of Arizona Farm Bureau Federation. Board members will join the information people at the luncheon session. Membership in Arizona Farm Bureau Federation exceeded 4,000 farm and ranch families in the July 1 tabulation by the state office. Cochise and Pinal County Farm Bureaus both reached their mem bership quotas during the past month. State-wide membership the first of this month was 4,013, about 100 higher than at the same date a year ago. Representative John Rhodes has introduced a bill in Congress which would extend the Mexican Farm Labor Program for three years, and at the same time, gradually end the program by the end of 1966. Rhodes* bill is identical tothose introduced recently by Represent ative E. C. Gathings (D-Ark.), Gerald R. Ford (R-Mich.), Wak Horan (R-Wash.), and Donald Clausen, Charles S. Gubser, Pat rick M. Martin, Burt L. Talcott, Charles M. Teague, and James B. Utt (all R-Calif.), and similar to one introduced by Senator J. W. Fulbright (D-Ark.). The new Bracero proposal fol lows the May 29 defeat by the U.S. House of a bill which would have extended the program for two years. This had been authored by Representative Morris Udall, and was voted for by all three Arizona representatives. The Senate recently amended and passed its version of the Area Redevelopment Act, after the House had rejected a similar bill. The proposal is actively opposed by Farm Bureau. In the Senate roll call, Carl Hayden voted in favor of the mea sure, and Barry Goldwater voted against it.
